The final day of the Capitol City Classic took place on Wednesday at Willamette University in Salem and it was a full day of competitive action. We had the opportunity to take the entire day’s worth of games and here’s a look at the top performers in the evening session.

[player_tooltip player_id="1096114" first="Spencer" last="Horne"] (2023 Cascade)

Both Horne and his twin brother Samuel typically are supporting cast members and do dirty work such as defense, but on Wednesday against Salem Academy, Spencer shone offensively. With [player_tooltip player_id="1315407" first="Kellen" last="Sande"] on the bench in foul trouble, he caught fire from the outside and knocked down four threes in the first half. He ended up hitting five from deep, scoring 17 points while grabbing six rebounds and still playing tough D.

[player_tooltip player_id="1256728" first="Ty" last="Best"] (2023 Cascade)

Solid game from the 6-foot-7 junior who continues to be an all-around threat. He was especially tough on the boards and on defense, utilizing his strength and athleticism to grab seven rebounds and block two shots. While he didn’t make his two three-point attempts, he did manage to get some buckets near the hoop and ended with 10 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1315388" first="John" last="Pass"] (2022 Salem Academy)

Pass is a hard-nosed guard that played extremely hard on both ends. The 6-foot-1 senior was slow to get things going offensively but started to hit shots in the second half and really draw contact on his drives to the basket. He ended up with 15 points which included 8-for-10 shooting from the charity stripe.

[player_tooltip player_id="1197477" first="Max" last="Elmgren"] (2024 Beaverton)

With [player_tooltip player_id="1201007" first="Brady" last="Rice"] out to injury, the job of hitting shots against Roosevelt fell to Elmgren who certainly filled in. The lefty sophomore may lack bulk right now but that prevent him from being aggressive, whether it was shooting from the perimeter or getting to the basket and getting fouled. He wound up hitting three threes and also 5-for-7 from the line.

Philip Rosenfeld (2022 Beaverton)

Another beneficiary to the absence of Rice was Rosenfeld who was also able to show off some of his offensive abilities. The 6-foot-6 forward was active around the hoop but also when positioned in the high post, capably hit elbow jumpers. He showed off some nice interior passing, finding guys cutting to the hoop and finished with five assists to go along with his 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1110736" first="Utrillo" last="Morris"] (2024 Roosevelt)

Morris was dominant all game long for Roosevelt against Beaverton. He was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, which consisted of quick drives and strong finishes at the bucket along with a couple of threes. He was creative with the basketball and his passing which led to seven assists, and he even pulled down five rebounds - quite impressive for a 5-foot-9 guard. His speed and quickness couldn’t be countered whenever he was in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="857345" first="Donatello" last="Tupper"] (2022 Roosevelt)

Usually it’s the guards that do most of the shooting for the Roughriders, so Tupper got his buckets largely off of offensive boards and especially in transition. He found himself in position on the break to catch and throw down a couple of dunks and at game’s conclusion, the senior had finished with 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting.

[player_tooltip player_id="1110570" first="Chance" last="White"] (2024 Roosevelt)

Especially with [player_tooltip player_id="1052572" first="Terrence" last="Hill"] not his usual self, White had the opportunity to step up and he did just that. He picked his spots but was very efficient with his scoring, hitting a couple of threes in addition to converting a couple of drives to the hoop. 11 points on the night on 4-for-5 shooting for the sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id="857366" first="Antonio" last="Jimenez"] (2022 Roosevelt)

If there’s a guy that’s become the sixth man for the Roughriders, it’s Jimenez. The team’s designated three-point shooter, he started off slow but hit two really big ones in the second half when the game was in the balance. He was also jimmy-on-the-spot for another late bucket. The senior wing ended up with 10 points.

Jon Breyman (2022 West Salem)

There was no player who was steady all tournament long for West Salem as Breyman. That was true in the title game as well as he calmly handled the point, hit shots, and was simply solid all-around from buzzer to buzzer. He’s built like a tank and uses that to his advantage on both ends. He finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals and was named Tournament MVP.

Tommy Slack (2023 West Salem)

The Titans other double figure scorer was Slack, who wasn’t able to hit from long range but got his buckets on a variety of drives to the hoop and mid-range pull-ups. His two most critical points came at the end when he nailed two clutch free throws to extend West Salem’s lead to three. A solid ball-handler, he dished out three second-half assists to go with his 10 total points.

[player_tooltip player_id="857371" first="Logan" last="Thebiay"] (2022 Wilsonville)

The Wildcats only double-figure scorer, Thebiay earned his points at the cup. He threw down two power dunks and got a couple of other baskets inside with a soft touch. The 6-foot-10 senior ran the floor well and mopped up on the boards when he was in the game, pulling down six.
