Ethan Boutwell 2022 6’4 Taft High School
Ethan is an impressive scorer from the mid-range, he picked apart defenses all tournament long by simply flashing to the high post and quickly turning around for an elbow jumper. His consistent shooting and ability to box out and clear the rebounds really sparked his team. He made good decisions when tasked with passing the ball to jump-start the fast break. I would like to see him become more confident with a live dribble, especially when attacking the basket.
Zach Desmith 2022 6’5 Brackenridge High School
Zach is a very impressive leaper who knows how to time his jumps right to get blocks. In the first quarter alone of the game I was watching, he racked up three blocks. He is an aggressive defender who defends his rim at all costs. He has good foot speed allowing him to play on the perimeter and swallow up guards as well. I would like to see him work on creating more with a live dribble, especially in the mid-range.
Matt Cuellar 2022 6’6 John Paul II High School
Matt is a do it all big for John Paul, he is very active on the glass and gives good hard screens to generate open looks for his teammates. It was fun seeing him work in the paint, whether he was sealing defenders or clearing the glass. I loved watching him run the floor and cut to the basket, he always beat his opponents to the rim, especially after he set a good hard screen. He got plenty of open looks in the paint by running hard and beating his opponents to a spot. I would like to see him continue to work on his handle and shot from the outside.
Douglas Marsh 2022 6’5 East Central High School
Douglas is a lanky forward who moves his feet well to stay in front of guards. He is great at using his length to block shots and make his opponents uncomfortable. I was impressed to see him attack the basket with a live dribble with ease. He is great when he gets going downhill and has an ability to clear space for himself in the paint and finish at the rim. I would like to see continued development with his shot in the midrange off the bounce.
