is going to be a big part of that attack. The smooth 5-foot-10 combo guard was a solid performer as a junior but now as a senior, he’s ready to really make a mark with his play on both ends of the floor.
“I’m expecting a lot more (out of myself) than last year,” Mesa said. “Hopefully I’ll have more chances with the ball able to create for my teammates and myself.”
Last season, Mesa largely served as a spot-up shooter on offense getting kick-outs from double-teams down low or passes off of penetration – and he did that well, shooting just under 38% from three. Defensively, he showed great motor with his on-the-ball coverage. Knowing he wanted to diversify his game, Mesa suited up with OBC to play on the AAU circuit with the intent of playing against tough competition.
“It was a great experience,” Mesa said. “It was more physical and it was great to play in other states. It helped me learn a lot about how kids play around the country. With OBC I was just shooting a lot but I feel like I’ve improved with my overall game a lot with my ball-handling, defense, and playmaking.”
Along with his teammates, Mesa got an opportunity to play in front of college coaches and is hopeful to continue catching eyes his senior season. When it comes down to it, he just wants a chance at continuing his career at the college level.
“I’m just looking for anywhere, I don’t care what it is,” Mesa said. “Whatever opportunity I’ll get, that’s what I’ll take.”

having gone on to college, Beaverton is now looking at utilizing their stellar guard play and Mesa is hopeful the new style will lead to good results. “It’s going to be completely different and we’re going to playing up and down a lot,” Mesa said. “We’re going to be fast-paced which I think fits a lot of our players better than last year. So I feel that we can be just as good as last year playing a whole different style.”
