On Sunday October 10th I attended the Prep Hoops Top-250 EXPO at Inspire Courts in Gilbert, AZ.

There were about 80 players from five states (NM/CA/CO/NV/AZ) who played three games each with 10 teams of 7-9 players on each team.

I thought there was good depth at every age group and adequate competition on every court.

Here are some more 2023 standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="1306014" first="Derek" last="Stanley"] Cibola (Pictured)

A junior forward who scores it primarily inside with efficiency. He has sneaky bounce and stays active to rebound the ball. He will score on put backs off of a rebound plus block shots in his area. He should help the Raiders in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275430" first="Memphis" last="James"] Coconino

Another strong showing for James. He checks many boxes. He has good strength, he passes it well, he cuts to the basket without the ball and he gets on the glass. He can pull-up from mid to the 3 and he brings good energy to the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1030973" first="Vincent" last="Parise"] Desert Mountain

Parise shot the ball a little better from the 3pt line with range this event. He is best shooting off the catch and can drive it off the bounce and score it in the lane with layups or euros. He reads the defenses deciding to shoot it from the perimeter or drive it.

[player_tooltip player_id="1306039" first="Anthony" last="Garcia"] Casa Grande

An undersized scoring lead guard is tough as they come. He is very good defender on the ball with his lateral quickness, strength and speed. He is a little of a volume shooter but he can score it from all levels with a nice stroke from mid to the 3. His toughness, skill and grit should have Casa Grande liking this guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1225557" first="Triston" last="Walters"] Higley

A stocky and strong combo guard can drive and kick it to an open shooter. He likes bulling his way downhill and scoring through contact. He can rise up and pull from mid-range and he fights hard on defense with aggressive play using quick hands.

[player_tooltip player_id="937185" first="Joven" last="Allen"] Desert Edge

A combo forward scores it from inside and out. He has that thicker build to bang inside the paint to rebound. He is undersized but scores it efficiently near the basket and uses a big IQ to find his spots. He also is a sneaky good passer and will score through contact with his girth.

[player_tooltip player_id="1306035" first="Elijah" last="Hasan"] Shadow Ridge/NV

A talented scoring guard handles it well and can catch and shoot from the 3. He can also score it in traffic getting downhill using his tighter handle. He is one of those players that manages to get to his spots and he can pull-up from mid-range.
