In Louisiana, the class of 2024 has some young forwards who are already major contributors on the varsity level. They came in as freshmen and made a mark on their respective programs. Now, as sophomores, they are ready for more responsibility. In this positional rankings review, we will take a look at the power forwards/post in the 2024 class. Louisiana has some good ones in this group.

[player_tooltip player_id="1159181" first="Trey’Dez" last="Green"] (6’7" / East Feliciana)

Even as a sophomore, Green is one of the more skilled forwards the Boot has to offer. He is listed as a power forward but his skill set is one that will have him playing the wing on the next level. Green can face up, post, and handle for a player his size. At the Prep Hoops Top 250, he showed all of those skills and the ability to get up the floor in transition. He is a stud and will only get better.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105540" first="Todd" last="Jones"] (6’8" / Isidore Newman)

Playing for LivOn this summer, Jones had some ups and downs. However, the talent he has is undeniable. Jones is a shot blocker who can score anywhere in that paint. For a rising sophomore, his ability to seal and catch the ball with either hand is excellent. He keeps the ball high and finishes around the rim repetitively. He is one in a growing list of high level players Randy Livingston has at Newman. His ceiling is really high going into this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105536" first="Jeremiah" last="Evans"] (6’8" / Southwood)

Evans took some bumps playing in 1-5A last season. Even with that happening, this rising sophomore showed that he has the talent to be a high level player. Evans knows how to score over both shoulders, can step out and knockdown the baseline J and is a good rebounder. This summer he improved his ball handling and extended his range. With his wealth of talent, Evans may have a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105578" first="Hubert" last="Caliste"] (6’6" / St. Augustine)

Caliste reminds me of Oliver Miller (that may be a little old for some) but with more game. As he proved in the Division I state title game, he can score from the post and is deadly as a spot up shooter from three. This summer with LivOn he was seen driving to the hole, passing out of doubles in the post, and other things. His skill level is mature for a sophomore and I would not be surprised if Caliste ends up first team all-state because of it.

[player_tooltip player_id="1277342" first="Laramie" last="Guidry"] (6’6" / Dunham)

Guidry is a very good defender in the paint and is very good at blocking shots when he is playing a guy straight up or when he rotates over to help. He will definitely get a chance to score more on the block with [player_tooltip player_id="530995" first="Carlos" last="Stewart"] moving on to college. Guidry and his wide body should make an impact for Dunham this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105593" first="Jordan" last="Mathews"] (6’5" / Peabody)

Mathews is built like a tight end and plays in the paint like he is 6’8" or 6’9". He is agile and can rebound the ball from anywhere because he tracks the ball well. When he goes up for layups whether in the half court or on the break, he powers through contact. Mathews has a good touch from the line which makes me think he will be good with short jumpers. He is a young big who will bring a tough, inside presence to the Warhorses.

[player_tooltip player_id="1277356" first="Chris" last="Leman"] (6’7" / Isidore Newman)

Leman is another player who showed positive flashes for LivOn this summer. He played well at the Prep Hoops live event in Birmingham when [player_tooltip player_id="1105540" first="Todd" last="Jones"] was in foul trouble. Leman can score with a short jump hook and is active on the glass. He is also very good at running rim-to-rim and gaining good position by the hoop. Leman may play backup this season but he is highly skilled. He is a player that could start for many other teams in the Boot.

[player_tooltip player_id="1218198" first="Lionel" last="Bell"] (6’8" / BTW New Orleans)

Bell will play more post than he may like this season with the departure of [player_tooltip player_id="781851" first="Kyran" last="Ratliff"]. What the Lions get with him on the floor is a 6’8" athlete who can finish above the rim and get out in transition. His ability to effectively rebound will be big for his individual success and the team’s success as well. If he can command the paint, BTW will have a budding stud on their hands.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105584" first="Marquez" last="Tate"] (6’2" / Summerfield)

Tate is listed as a power forward because that is what he will play in class C. He is a big body inside who can rebound and score close to the hoop. He can possibly have double-doubles night because he will be hard to move out of the paint. When he gets the rock, defenders are not taking it away from him. He is a load in the middle.

Other sophomores like [player_tooltip player_id="1285328" first="cooper" last="coates"] will see time in the post as well because of his body and the ability to score and rebound. This group of forwards may be small but they are going to be impactful during the season. They are truly going to be some of the best players in this class of 2024.

Trey’Dez Green Trey’Dez Green Trey’Dez Green 6'8" | PF Zachary | 2024 State #54 Nation LA (6’7" / East Feliciana)

Todd Jones Todd Jones 6'8" | PF Newman | 2024 State #185 Nation LA (6’8" / Isidore Newman)

Jeremiah Evans Jeremiah Evans 6'10" | C Southwood | 2024 State #249 Nation LA (6’8" / Southwood)

Hubert Caliste Hubert Caliste 6'6" | PF St. Augustine | 2024 State LA (6’6" / St.

Laramie Guidry Laramie Guidry 6'6" | PF Dunham | 2024 State LA (6’6" / Dunham)

Guidry is a very good defender in the paint and is very good at blocking shots when he is playing a guy straight up or when he rotates over to help. He will definitely get a chance to score more on the block with Carlos Stewart Carlos Stewart Carlos Stewart 6'1" | CG Dunham | 2021 State LA moving on to college. Guidry and his wide body should make an impact for Dunham this season.

Jordan Mathews Jordan Mathews 6'5" | SF Peabody | 2024 State LA (6’5" / Peabody)

Chris Leman Chris Leman Chris Leman 6'8" | PF Worcester Academy | 2024 New E (6’7" / Isidore Newman)

Leman is another player who showed positive flashes for LivOn this summer. He played well at the Prep Hoops live event in Birmingham when Todd Jones Todd Jones 6'8" | PF Newman | 2024 State #185 Nation LA was in foul trouble. Leman can score with a short jump hook and is active on the glass. He is also very good at running rim-to-rim and gaining good position by the hoop. Leman may play backup this season but he is highly skilled. He is a player that could start for many other teams in the Boot.

Lionel Bell Lionel Bell 6'8" | PF BTW-New Orleans | 2024 State LA (6’8" / BTW New Orleans)

Bell will play more post than he may like this season with the departure of Kyran Ratliff. What the Lions get with him on the floor is a 6’8" athlete who can finish above the rim and get out in transition. His ability to effectively rebound will be big for his individual success and the team’s success as well. If he can command the paint, BTW will have a budding stud on their hands.

Marquez Tate Marquez Tate Marquez Tate 6'2" | PF Summerfield | 2024 State LA (6’2" / Summerfield)

Tate is listed as a power forward because that is what he will play in class C. He is a big body inside who can rebound and score close to the hoop. He can possibly have double-doubles night because he will be hard to move out of the paint. When he gets the rock, defenders are not taking it away from him. He is a load in the middle.

Other sophomores like cooper coates will see time in the post as well because of his body and the ability to score and rebound. This group of forwards may be small but they are going to be impactful during the season. They are truly going to be some of the best players in this class of 2024.
