This past Wednesday was the first rankings release for the class of 2024. Of the three classes, it seemed like this one played on the major circuits the least. Even with a lack of activity, this class is full of gems. In this overview of the rankings, we will take a look at the top ten, some positional rankings, and other things unique about the class of 2024.

The Top Ten

The top ten players in this first class of 2024 ranking is like a who’s who of talent. Some of them made their mark contributing to state championship teams and others were top players in their district all season. [player_tooltip player_id="1202676" first="Kameron" last="Williams"] of Lafayette Christian (LCA) gets the top spot. He has one of the more versatile skill sets in the class and can hurt from inside and out. Behind him is [player_tooltip player_id="1159181" first="Trey’Dez" last="Green"] of East Feliciana. His outstanding play in the paint during the Prep Hoops Louisiana Top 250 solidified him as the #2 player. He is followed by Newman’s [player_tooltip player_id="1105540" first="Todd" last="Jones"]. He is a top tier rim protector and rebounder who always presents a good target in the post. Rounding out the top five is [player_tooltip player_id="1145438" first="Kohen" last="Rowbatham"] of Northshore and [player_tooltip player_id="1105536" first="Jeremiah" last="Evans"] of Southwood.

Former Crescent City, now Shaun Dumas Academy, guard [player_tooltip player_id="1105547" first="Jordan" last="Moore"] is the sixth-rated player in the initial rankings. He is like TNT and can explode at anytime when it comes to finishing at the rim. Madison Prep has an impressive wing combo in [player_tooltip player_id="1218216" first="Jayce" last="Depron"] (#7) and [player_tooltip player_id="1218217" first="Josh" last="Smith"] (#10) who grace the top 10. They are players who can fill it up from three and get to the rack. [player_tooltip player_id="1105578" first="Hubert" last="Caliste"] of Division I champion St. Augustine is the 8th rated player followed by another player with a crazy skill set in [player_tooltip player_id="1218192" first="Wayne" last="Randall-Bashay"] at nine.

Top Ten

[player_tooltip player_id="1202676" first="Kameron" last="Williams"] (LCA)

[player_tooltip player_id="1159181" first="Trey’Dez" last="Green"] (E. [player_tooltip player_id="1218185" first="Hays" last="Regard"] (St. Thomas More) - Nobody can replace the four year production of Domingue and [player_tooltip player_id="765919" first="Jaden" last="Shelvin"]. These two talented sophomores will get a crack at it with a ton of minutes. It helps to have Danny Broussard as their coach, too.

Breakout Seasons

[player_tooltip player_id="1105578" first="Hubert" last="Caliste"] (St. Augustine) - Caliste had a big summer from scoring inside and outside last season and on the EYBL Circuit. He may command a lot of attention. He can put the ball in the basket so many ways however, it may not make a difference.

[player_tooltip player_id="1218193" first="Jamarion" last="Thomas"] (Live Oak) - Thomas may be one of the better point guards in his class and his district. For Live Oak to be ultra competitive, he is going to have to score. I think defenders will have a hard time stopping him from doing that.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105539" first="Javon" last="Johnson"] (Bossier) - The Bossier sophomore broke into the starting lineup late last season and found himself as the leading scorer on some nights for the Bearkats. He shot the lights out this summer which will make him even more of a threat this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105593" first="Jordan" last="Mathews"] (Peabody) - Historically Peabody has a post player who can command the inside. This season Mathews is that guy. He can score through contact, get it off the glass, and run the floor. Mathews will be a load for any team to stop this season.

The class of 2024 rankings are deep with talent. Look for more players to be added after the season begins in November. This should be a fun class to get to know during the coming season.
