I had the pleasure of attending the Top 250 Prep Hoops Expo at Gold Crown Fieldhouse in Lakewood, CO. yesterday. Their were a number of standout players but the following are my top 2022 point guards.

[player_tooltip player_id="759278" first="Jaeton" last="Hackley"]- Senior 6’0" PG- Douglas County High School

This first thing I look for in a point guard is his ability to see the floor and get his teammates involved and that is something Jaeton does very well. At one point in a game he delivered a dime from just beyond half court. He zipped the ball, between the legs of a defender, and put some english on the ball and it bounced right into the hands of his teammate for an easy lay up. That no doubt was a next level play. He also has the ability to be a lock down defender and with his size and strength can defend bigger players. Jaeton also finishes well in the paint with either hand. The area of his game that needs to be more consistent is his shot selection and to become a more consistent overall shooter. The skies the limit for him and I’m excited to see how his senior year unfolds and what the future has in store for him.

[player_tooltip player_id="918902" first="Elijah" last="Knudsen"]- Senior 5’9" PG/CG- Mead High School

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Elijah play many times, but what always stands out to me is his competitive fire. That is something you just can’t teach. Each and every time he is on the floor he wants to win. I imagine he is like that even if he is playing a pick up game. In addition he is also a very good 3 point shooter. At times he takes some ill advised shots from downtown which lowers his shooting percentage, so he has to continue to develop his game and be more consistent in that area. Also, he is quick, shifty and explosive and has the ability to finish in the paint with either hand and above the rim. Yes, even at 5’9" he can throw down a dunk. Elijah has already signed with Mesa State so he will be playing his college ball for them next year. I’m excited to watch his senior year unfold and to follow him in the future as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="918903" first="Jeremiah" last="Coleman"]- Senior 5’10" PG- Colorado Prep

Jeremiah is a scoring point guard who can shoot the ball at a fairly high percentage. While his scoring ability is what stands out the most to me he is also adept at dishing out assists. He is playing for Colorado Prep so he will see very talented players in the Adidas Grind series. I’m excited to see his game develop and where he might land next year. Keep nd eye out for Mr. Coleman.

[player_tooltip player_id="1050952" first="Brayden" last="Maldonado"]- Senior 5’10" PG- Smoky Hill

Brayden is an all purpose point guard, He can score, he can defend and he can dish out assists in bunches. Brayden is the type of player every coach likes to have as he can do it all. Even playing against the Top 250 players in yesterdays Prep Hoops Expo he stood out. I like his court vision and his versatility in being able to get his teammates involved and lead the team in scoring. With some work in the weight room to be able to handle larger players I think he has a real shot to play on the next level. I’m eagerly looking forward to following him through his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="618875" first="Dominic" last="Marrujo"]- Senior 5’9" PG- Prairie View High School

Dominic is a scoring guard in every sense of the word. His biggest weapon is the 3 ball and while he is a bit inconsistent from downtown when he gets hot watch out. He can drain it from anywhere. He is also very capable of finishing in the paint with either hand and plays with a no fear mentality. Another thing he does very well, even at 5’9", is rebound the ball. He seems to have a knack for getting into spots and getting rebounds even amongst taller players. I will be keeping my eye on him as he rolls into his senior year and will be interested to see where he ends up.
