Looking ahead to the 2021-22 season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin breaks down the race in the Fox Valley Association...

PROJECTED STANDINGS

1. Kimberly

2. Neenah

3. Appleton East

4. Oshkosh North

5. Kaukauna

6. Appleton North

7. Fond du Lac

8. Appleton West

9. Hortonville

10. Oshkosh West

THE FAVORITE - KIMBERLY

Last season’s co-champs won’t be as deep or as talented on paper, but do return a solid 1-2 punch in the backcourt in [player_tooltip player_id="801149" first="Jackson" last="Paveletzke"] (19.2 ppg) and St. Leo commit [player_tooltip player_id="1017073" first="Owen" last="Pawlikowski"] (8.8 ppg). The Papermakers do have a lot of players who have paid their dues and waited their turn to make their mark, including junior wing [player_tooltip player_id="981150" first="Seth" last="Miron"] and senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="1270265" first="Jamison" last="Grall"]. Also watch sophomore wing/forward [player_tooltip player_id="1203240" first="Carson" last="Pendleton"], who had a strong summer on the travel circuit.

TOP CONTENDER - NEENAH

Senior guard Chevalier Emery (12.9 ppg) is in store for a big season. He’ll pair with senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="950099" first="Carter" last="Thomas"] (13.2) for the Rockets, who are definitely capable of repeating after sharing the Fox Valley Association title last season with Kimberly. Neenah’s x-factors could be their pair of senior forwards [player_tooltip player_id="988975" first="J.J." last="Paider"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1244880" first="Eli" last="Schmidt"], who give the Rockets a lot of size, length, and athleticism in the frontcourt.

DARK HORSE - APPLETON EAST

The Patriots should be one of the most improved teams in the state. East was 9-14 in 2020-21, but return a ton of experience and now have a healthy [player_tooltip player_id="801152" first="Tyler" last="Borowski"] (14.0 ppg), who played in just six games. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="988704" first="Zach" last="Steigenberger"] (13.8 ppg), junior forward [player_tooltip player_id="1138440" first="Caleb" last="Glaser"] (12.3 ppg), senior forward Carter Thompson (12.2 ppg), senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="865861" first="Cade" last="Feldhausen"] (4.4 ppg) make up arguably the best starting five in the league. Also look for sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="1258392" first="Joey" last="Lachapell"] (5.2 ppg) to provide a boost after a promising freshman campaign.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR - [player_tooltip player_id="801149" first="Jackson" last="Paveletzke"]

Paveletzke led the Papermakers to the Division 1 state title game as a junior and will be determined to get over the hump in 2021-22. The Division 1 recruit averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game last season while playing alongside Lipscomb commit [player_tooltip player_id="701973" first="Grant" last="Asman"] and a slew of talented seniors.

BREAKOUT PLAYER - [player_tooltip player_id="1089684" first="Stevie" last="Clark"]

Got got big minutes for the Spartans as a freshman and based on his summer, will be one of the top players in the FVA as a sophomore. Clark was second on North in scoring last season at 11.9 ppg. He shot 50.5 percent from the floor and also grabbed nearly five boards per outing.

SURPRISE PLAYER - [player_tooltip player_id="1240336" first="Amari" last="Allen"]

Right now, Allen is either the No. 1 or No. 2 player in Wisconsin’s 2025 class. The 6-foot-5 wing is clearly an instant impact player for Kaukauna, even in a league as good as the FVA. Likely a high major prospect, Allen checks a lot of boxes athletically and has a unique all-around game for his age.

Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id="988975" first="J.J." last="Paider"] (Neenah), [player_tooltip player_id="981152" first="Trent" last="Mullen"] (Appleton North), [player_tooltip player_id="981150" first="Seth" last="Miron"] (Kimberly), [player_tooltip player_id="1200591" first="E.J." last="Holt"] (Appleton West), [player_tooltip player_id="1021600" first="Ezra" last="Brown"] (Appleton West), [player_tooltip player_id="1244880" first="Eli" last="Schmidt"] - Sr. - (Neenah), [player_tooltip player_id="1270265" first="Jamison" last="Grall"] (Kimberly), [player_tooltip player_id="1258392" first="Joey" last="Lachapell"] (Appleton East), [player_tooltip player_id="865861" first="Cade" last="Feldhausen"] (Appleton East), Cooper Juedes (Oshkosh North), James Bradley (Oshkosh West)
