The 4th Annual Triad First 48 County Clash took place on Saturday at Shining Light Academy. Take a look at some of the award winners from the event.

Best Shooter

[player_tooltip player_id="1273218" first="Peyton" last="Compton"] | 5’8 Guard | Team Davie/Yadkin/Wilkes | 2022

Compton was one of the top shooters at the Triad First 48 County Clash, showing off his shiftiness with the ball in his hands to create space for shots on the perimeter. He knocked down six 3-pointers in their opening win and was a big reason their squad took home the Tournament Title at the end of the day. He’s an emerging prospect to know at Forbush High.

Best Passer

[player_tooltip player_id="577860" first="Zaharee" last="Maddox"] | 5’9 Point Guard | Team Davie/Yadkin/Wilkes | 2022

Maddox was an impressive floor general for his Davie/Yadkin/Wilkes squad as he showed off his court vision as their setup man on the offensive end. He showed off his ability to control the tempo and score when needed as he found his teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="1273218" first="Peyton" last="Compton"], for a number of looks to pace their scoring on the perimeter. He’s an impressive pick-and-roll threat as well with his laser-guided passes in space. He’s a top passer in the 2022 class.

Best Rebounder

[player_tooltip player_id="1110452" first="Kahlif" last="Barnes"] | 6’7 Forward | Team Guilford | 2023

Barnes was a force on the boards on both ends on Saturday, when he wasn’t showing his range on the perimeter. He kept plays alive for his squad as a presence on the offensive glass with a number of putbacks and saves in the paint. He finished their opening game with 21 points despite the close loss. He’s an emerging big man to know with his mobility and abilities at Piedmont Classical High.

Best Scorer

[player_tooltip player_id="1257255" first="James" last="McCreary"] | 6’2 Guard | Team Stokes/Surry | 2023

McCreary opened Stokes/Surry’ first game with an impressive 29-point performance with 20 points coming in the first half of the Triad First 48 County Clash. He showed off his ability to score on all three levels while opening with the team’s first nine points. He gave those in attendance a preview of what things will look like with him and [player_tooltip player_id="951363" first="Jahreece" last="Lynch"] in the same backcourt and it was impressive to say the least.

GameChangers

These were three prospects that, no matter what was happening in the game, made good things happen on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1136378" first="Finley" last="Simmons"] | 6’2 Guard | Team Forsyth | 2022

Simmons is a prospect that continues to improve and impress with his ability to compete and make winning plays. He’s a gritty prospect with a nose for the ball on both ends. He can get to the rim with ease and knock down shots on the perimeter, making him quite the matchup nightmare in the backcourt. He’s even more of a presence with his length and quickness on the defensive end. He’s due for a strong senior season at Mount Tabor.

[player_tooltip player_id="951363" first="Jahreece" last="Lynch"] | 6’2 Guard | Team Stokes/Surry | 2023

Lynch is one of the most fundamentally sound prospects in the 2023 class. He’s got a smooth game while not overdoing the handles or athleticism at the same token. He has a winning mentality and his teammates know when to get out the way and let him do his thing as they did in their second game of the lead where he knocked a game-winning fallaway shot that looked nearly impossible to make. He’s an impressive two-sport standout in both basketball and football as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="848061" first="Brent" last="Randleman"] | 6’3 Guard | Team Guilford | 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="848061" first="Brent" last="Randleman"] was one of a few standouts in the Team Guilford lineup. He was a GameChanger given his ability to make plays on both ends of the floor with his length and athleticism. He’s a lot more aggressive on the offensive boards and has a number of impressive putback dunks while showing off his development as a scorer off the bounce. He got to his spots and showed off his ability to handle pressure and knock down shots on all three levels. He’s much improved from a season ago heading into his senior season at Piedmont Classical.

Rising Stars

[player_tooltip player_id="997745" first="Iverson" last="King"] | 6’5 Guard/Wing | Forysth | 2024

King is an emerging guard prospect that’s a matchup nightmare in the making given his size at 6-foot-5. He didn’t hesitate to get to the paint and finish at the rim when needed. He’s got a nice shooting stroke as well as he knocked down a clutch shot down the stretch. He’ll be a prospect to watch over at Forsyth Country Day this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273231" first="Jalen" last="Umstead"] | 6’5 Forward | Team Rock/Alam/Cas/Rand | 2024

[player_tooltip player_id="1273231" first="Jalen" last="Umstead"] is a new face to know in NC’s 2024 class. Umstead showed off good instincts as an inside-outside threat on both ends of the floor. He did well to protect the rim and block shots without fouling despite his youth. Offensively, he showed off the ability to knock down shots and operate in the paint. As he improves his strength and footwork, his development should be fun to watch. He’s a name to know over at T. Wingate Andrews High.
