The districts were announced for Michigan high school basketball. Let’s look at 1 player to watch from each D1 district.

DISTRICT 1

Braodon Ewing (2022, PF, Petoskey)

Ewing is a true post prospect that will draw a lot of eyes in this district. He’s a strong finisher at the rim and secures the ball nicely. Ewing can score with his back to the basket.

DISTRICT 2

[player_tooltip player_id="983500" first="Drew" last="Barrie"] (2022, SG, Midland)

Barrie is a very intriguing prospect. He plays the game with a high basketball IQ and is smooth and fluid with the ball. Barrie is a top shelf shooter as well.

DISTRICT 3

[player_tooltip player_id="1150772" first="Isaiah" last="Jones"] (2022, SG, Flint Carman-Ainsworth)

Jones is an old fashioned grinder that takes pride in outworking his man. He’s the kind of player that won’t hesitate to hit the floor to snag a loose ball. Jones uses his quick first step to attack the rim and he plays solid perimeter man defense.

DISTRICT 4

[player_tooltip player_id="787618" first="Ty" last="Rodgers"] (2022, SF, Grand Blanc)

This one seems pretty obvious. Rodgers is a national attraction when he hits the basketball court. This summer he’s shown that he’s not just a highlight reel, but also a force on the defensive end and a star player that’s willing to do the little things that lead to wins.

DISTRICT 5

[player_tooltip player_id="863997" first="Alden" last="Ritt"] (2022, PF, Lake Orion)

I really like Ritt’s upside as a player and prospect. I list him as a power forward, but honestly, he could be a stretch 4 or even a 3. Ritt can score from multiple spots on the floor and defend multiple positions.

DISTRICT 6

[player_tooltip player_id="863921" first="Keegan" last="Wasilk"] (2022, PG, Clarkston)

Wasilk will be a must see player at districts. He is one of the highest IQ players in the state. Wasilk has an understanding of the nuances of the game that is very rare.

DISTRICT 7

[player_tooltip player_id="1130662" first="Sam" last="Lewis"] (2023, SF, Milford)

I’m guessing that you’ll all know who [player_tooltip player_id="1130662" first="Sam" last="Lewis"] is by the time that the district tournaments arrive. He cuts to the rim and finishes at a high percentage. Lewis is a plus shooter as well.

DISTRICT 8

August Johanningsmeier (2022, C, Howell)

Remember this young mans name. His stat sheet may not blow you away, but you’ll be glad you watched him play. Johanningsmeier is a hustle player that excels in a physical game. He draws fouls and plays through contact.

DISTRICT 9

[player_tooltip player_id="787685" first="Kyler" last="Vanderjagt"] (2022, SG, Northview)

Vanderjagt is a must see star in the state of Michigan. His combination of size, strength, and ball skills are a thing of beauty. Vanderjagt just loves to play the game and it shows when he steps on the court.

DISTRICT 10

[player_tooltip player_id="987274" first="Jordan" last="Briggs"] (2023, PG, Muskegon)

Briggs is a slippery playmaker that frustrates opposing defenders. He can shake a defender with his handles, put them on his hips, and create for himself and his teammates.

DISTRICT 11

[player_tooltip player_id="1143391" first="Merritt" last="Alderink"] (2024, PF, Zeeland West)

Alderink is really turning heads since the spring and this young man is full of upside. His game is developing quickly and I have a feeling that he’ll be a prime time draw cone districts.

DISTRICT 12

[player_tooltip player_id="1077676" first="Simon" last="Neuhaus"] (2023, G/F, East Grand Rapids)

Neuhaus is one of the top iso scorers on the west side of the state. He has a confident stroke from deep. Neuhaus has all the intangibles that line up with a high level prospect.

DISTRICT 13

[player_tooltip player_id="987285" first="Grant" last="Grondezick"] (2023, PG, Stevensville Lakeshore)

Please watch this young man play this coming season. He’s put it all together and has become a premier point guard in Michigan. Grondezick can play as a score first or pass first lead guard.

DISTRICT 14

[player_tooltip player_id="863976" first="Brandon" last="Downs"] (2022, CG, Coldwater)

Downs can put points on the board at any time. He’s a solid shooter and an underrated all around athlete. Downs is having a nice grassroots season and that will carry over to high school season.

DISTRICT 15

[player_tooltip player_id="863931" first="Ethan" last="Dunn"] (2022, C, East Lansing)

Dunn has the size and strength to be a force in the middle. To go with that, he has soft and hands and touch at the rim. I’ve been a big fan of his skill set for a while now and he’ll be a big draw in this district.

DISTRICT 16

[player_tooltip player_id="983901" first="William" last="Young"] (2022, SG, Okemos)

Young is an explosive scorer that has had a very solid summer season. He seems like a prime candidate to have a big senior season and be a player that coaches at the next level will want to see.
