Coach Darius Burton runs the league and adds the city Rucker Park flair to announcing the games. If you have been to Rucker Park you know what I’m talking about. We took in several games this weekend and here are the players who stood out.
Antonio Matthew 5”10 2022. Island Trees
Good on the ball defender. Quick, elusive and crafty to the rim. Keeps the dribble tight and stays low driving the ball. Attacks basket but also showed a nice pull-up jumper off the bounce.
Matt Guevara. 5’”8. 2024 Island Trees
This program has two very good on-the-ball defenders from the guard spot. Matt moves his feet and keeps his opponent in front. Showed chase down speed in a couple of situations. Excellent handle with either hand going to the rim. Makes the right pass at the right time.
Amal Kayani. 6”5 2022. New Hyde Park
A presence inside the lane. Rebounds well using his body and leaping ability. Ability to finish inside.
Sireen Brown. 6”2 2022. New Hyde Park
Moved without the ball many times cutting off wing for an easy layup. Did a good job on both boards. Coming off an injury but he was still impressive.
Isiah Lariosa 6”2. 2022. New Hyde Park
Uses his body to score inside. Quick and sees the floor well. A cerebral player who sees the court and then quickly makes a play.
Arsh Singh. 6”2. 2022. New Hyde Park
Good in the open floor. Takes it hard to the rim and creates contact.
Frankie Mangione. 6”0 2025. New Hyde Park
Plays with crown basketball (AAU). Displayed a nice crossover dribble leading to a pull up jumper. Can shoot the three. Good in transition head up looking to make a play.
