Will Yates, 6’2 SG Trotwood-Madison 2024: Trotwood is very young but their 2024 class is LOADED! The Rams have Yates, Delamarr Blanton Delamarr Blanton 6'0" | CG Trotwood Madison | 2024 State OH and Tim Carpenter all playing heavy roles for their varsity roster this summer. Yates was the most impressive of the trio on Monday, scoring the ball at a very efficient clip. I like how Yates plays off two feet with jump stops for layups and mid-range pull-ups. Yates showed some nice defensive instincts as well, something required to thrive in Trotwood’s defensive system. Trotwood might experience some growing pains this season with all their youth, but the future is so bright.
Seven Scott, 6’4 SF Bishop Watterson 2023: I literally can’t remember if Scott missed a 3-pointer in the one game I saw of Bishop Watterson on Monday. Scott was catching the ball on the wing and letting it fly off the catch. Scott seemed to find the bottom of the net after every look he got. With Cole Rhett Cole Rhett 6'7" | C Bishop Watterson | 2023 State OH taking up so much attention in the paint, Scott and other Bishop Watterson shooters took advantage.
Brandon Hatcher, 6’0 PG Dayton Dunbar 2025: I’ve talked about the Allen twins throughout grassroots season, and while some other older members of Dunbar impressed me, I opted to spotlight Hatcher. It’s not often you see a kid who finished up eighth grade just weeks prior make a major impact for a varsity team over the summer, but Hatcher proved more than capable of playing for Dunbar. Hatcher is very poised for a young guard and showed he could run the offense. Hatcher can shoot it from the outside and at 6’0 isn’t super tiny defensively.
Lejames Washington, 6’2 SG Columbus South 2024: Columbus South was a bit shorthanded due to injuries, but that gave some minutes to new faces against high level competition. Washington stood out the most in my opinion for the Bulldogs as he found open space without the basketball for easy layups. Washington and Desean Pollard had a nice connection with Washington finding Pollard underneath the basket often throughout the evening. You know South is always going to bring toughness to whatever gym they walk into, and this 2021-2022 group will be no different.
PJ Noles, 6’2 SG Columbus DeSales 2025: Noles is the second incoming freshman we spotlighted and this will certainly not be the last time he’s featured on this website. The 6’2 guard has great pace to his game and nice touch on floaters and mid-range shots. Noles is going to be a major contributor to DeSales as a freshman. I’d imagine there aren’t many better incoming freshman in the state than Noles in Ohio.
