Ferris State University hosted a competitive and informative exposure camp this past weekend. I was impressed with not only the level of play on the extremely hot day. But the camp also provided exposure to players from coaches outside of the Ferris coaching staff. I counted at least four other programs represented. You don’t often see that.

The Shooters

Cameron Ohlsson 6-3 2022 Huron Valley Lutheran No other way to say it. On this very hot day Ohlsson was absolutely scorching the nets. Did it in a very efficient and within the flow manner as well. Has excellent size with a strong broad shouldered frame. Your are not just going to run him off the line. Because frankly you’re not going to run him off anything with his size and physicality. While not the quickest or shiftiest player. Makes up for it with a very quick release. Another factor that will keep teams from just running guys at him is that his range appeared to be very deep. First time viewing this player and I really liked what I saw. Should be running with the Academy O3 for the rest of the summer so you might want to put him on your list.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211147" first="Brayden" last="Wilkerson"] 6-3 2022 Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian Matching Ohlssom shot for shot was the wiry shooter from Grand Rapids. Wilkerson showed he was more than a shooter with a tight handle and a lot of bounce on his drives. While he was looking for his shot a little more in his duel with Ohlsson he clearly has the ability to play the point. Might even be his more natural position. From my initial viewing he will have to add weight and increase strength to reach his full potential. The Mustang program has quite a history of turning out small college shooters. Wilkerson will team with 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1377931" first="Kayden" last="Bird"] to try and keep alive the tradition established by Drew Zidema (Spring Arbor) and [player_tooltip player_id="789791" first="Sam" last="Vasiu"] (Hillsdale)

[player_tooltip player_id="864021" first="Quinn" last="Zickert"] 6-2 2002 Benzie Central The main difference between Zickert and the previous two on this list is that there is no need to add strength. He is a powerfully built and stocky athlete. But he is also a pure marksman from deep. With the exception of one that got away from him a bit he was draining them on Sunday. Despite non traditional size moves around well on the perimeter and is good at getting his shot off. Should form a high powered three headed monster look for Benzie Central with fellow camp participants [player_tooltip player_id="864009" first="Nate" last="Childers"] and 2024 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1112371" first="Jaxon" last="Childers"]. The elder Childers and Zickert are having an excellent spring playing for P45.

The Baller

[player_tooltip player_id="986245" first="Triston" last="Nichols"] 6-2 2023 Warren De La Salle (pictured at top of article) Nichols play stood out in a big way and was probably the best overall prospect at the camp. I’ve listed him as baller because I’m not entirely sure what position he is. Like Zickert has a stocky powerful frame. I should note it looks much sleeker and filled out than last summer when I saw him in Fort Wayne on a one off with Northern Exposure AAU. Handles it a good enough to play the point if needed. But also has the ability to bang down low due to his size. Has no problem scoring with ease at all three levels. I have heard he was having an excellent spring. He backed that up and them some Saturday. Made plays all over the court with a maturity uncommon for a 2023 prospect. In a excellent developmental program at De La Salle. With [player_tooltip player_id="611485" first="Linden" last="Holder"] moving on the Pilots will need a new primary scorer. I expect a big junior year for Nichols.
