HYATTSVILLE, MD -- There was plenty of action to discuss from the first part of Saturday at DMV Live. Here are some takeaways from a few of the games that occurred at DeMatha today.

Banks Leads Riverdale Past Landon

2023 guard [player_tooltip player_id="697107" first="Marcus" last="Banks"] was solid on both ends of the floor in his team’s hard-fought win on Saturday morning. The first thing that you’ll notice when watching him play is how stout he is at the point of attack defensively. Banks refuses to allow dribble penetration. And on the offensive side, he gets into the paint at will because of his burst. Banks also exhibits a good feel for the game. He gets open looks for his teammates but is also strong enough to absorb contact and finish with either hand at the rim. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] enjoyed a breakout performance for Landon despite the loss. The energetic lefty hit 5 of 8 from downtown, but also blocked two shots and recorded a steal.

Undermanned McNamara Hangs Tough Against Powerful SFA Panthers

2023 Bishop McNamara guard [player_tooltip player_id="957038" first="Jaden" last="Johnson"] didn’t suit up today because he had a family matter to attend to. But the Mustangs still managed to lead for most of the game against St. Frances. This was in part because [player_tooltip player_id="777061" first="Favour" last="Aire"] was assertive from start to finish. He had everything going, including the turnaround fadeaway jumper. Aire challenged everything defensively. He sprinted up and down the floor with regularity. He caught and finished emphatically in traffic, and hit a clutch free throw to send the game into overtime. But SFA showed incredible grit and determination. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1089573" first="Derik" last="Queen"] continues to perform well as advertised. His unselfish play is truly unique. Anytime Queen gets a touch, something good is likely to happen for his team.

Whitmore and Spalding Teammates Impress vs. STAB

[player_tooltip player_id="837927" first="Cameron" last="Whitmore"] certainly deserves plaudits for his eye-popping 36-point, 12 rebound eruption in a win over STAB. But he’s ranked #1 overall on our site for a reason. It’s time to show some love to his talented teammates. We’ve talked quite a bit about [player_tooltip player_id="954640" first="Jordan" last="Pennick"], who was tremendous on both ends of the floor today. [player_tooltip player_id="1198795" first="CJ" last="Scott"] and [player_tooltip player_id="904646" first="Tyheil" last="Peterson"] are also ranked on our site and both played well today. But [player_tooltip player_id="904660" first="Josh" last="Rivers"] deserves a shoutout for his performance today. He came out white-hot, draining his first three treys to start the game. Rivers is a confident shooter from behind the arc, but he said he is also working on to his spots from the mid-range. He’s grown a bit, but also shoots with range, which makes him difficult to mark at times. If Spalding can continue to weaponize him at a reasonable rate, they’ll be difficult to contend with.
