Playmakers Hang Tough Against Final
In perhaps the marquee game of the night on court 1, VA Playmakers 17U stayed within striking distance of Team Final squad for most of the contest. One of the Playmakers’ top performers was sharpshooter Jack Vanderwoude. The 6-foot-5 southpaw marksman hit multiple threes throughout the contest and was eventually became a focal point of the opponent’s defensive game plan.
Pulliam Keeps Pulling
Global Squad fell to BWSL Marsh in the early evening game set, but Kyle Pulliam Kyle Pulliam 6'3" | SG Good Counsel | 2022 State MD had some bright moments. With his team facing a 17 point deficit as the half approached, Pulliam caught fire and drained a pair of triples to help trim the gap. The lefty swingman also showcased his one-foot leaping ability on a two-handed dunk. Pulliam is beginning to gain full command of his body as his growing frame continues to fill out. He should only continue to improve going forward.
Team Richmond Has Some Sleepers
17U Team Richmond should not be overlooked in this tournament. Two guys who stood out this evening were KaShawn Cordes and James Bell. Cordes is a big guard who makes a difference on both ends of the court. And Bell is a rangy forward who can catch and finish but is also a very vocal and dependable presence defensively on the backline.
New World Depth On Full Display
Saxby Sunderland Saxby Sunderland 6'2" | CG Flint Hill | 2022 State VA and Saveon Jackson Saveon Jackson 6'0" | CG KIPP | 2021 State MD played this evening, illustrating the depth that New World possesses. Sunderland was outstanding on the boards. He also hit a pair of corner treys in the first half. Jackson’s jumper is coming along as well. He also hit a pair of corner treys, but in the second half. Both guards played solid defense and were significant contributors to the win over Big Shots.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow’s slate is promising. DC Premier 17’s will take the court against District BC, who pulled off a hard-fought win today. There is also a chance for Loaded to match up against Boo Williams. That will be a must-see contest as well.
