Zach Anderson Zach Anderson 6'6" | SF Martin County West | 2023 State MN of Rise (6’4 2023 of Martin County West). West is a player we saw this winter when MCW beat Madelia and Anderson totaled 18 points, nine rebounds, and assists. Anderson was even better this weekend. He’s a really good athlete with great size at the guard position and most importantly is likely his comfort with the ball. There haven’t been that many new 2023 players making major moves in the state of Minnesota but Anderson could certainly be one.
Lawson Godfrey Lawson Godfrey 6'1" | SG Mankato Loyola | 2023 State MN of Crossfire Barger (6’2 2023 of Mankato Loyola). Loyola only lost four games this year with Godfrey attacking defenses for regular 20 point nights. Godfrey settled in as one of the main three scorers for the Crossfire and his biggest contributions were at the end of wins hitting clutch foul shots or the attacking score.. Godrfrey was a big reason the Crossfire made the final four.
Isaac Nyakundi of Starks Elite (6’8 2023 of Duluth East). Isaac’s potential is clear. There is so much core strength plus length to his arms/legs, he has to be on the scholarship radar. He caught my eye with two one-step dunks in the post that were heard first, seen second. Isaac is surely raw but Duluth East continues to develop a lot of quality players so this young man has a serious chance to be good. All tournament level weekend in St. Cloud.
Anish Ramlall of WOTN (6’2 2023 of Rosemount). Anish may have been my favorite player to watch. He had this look in his eye going both ways that just made you want to cheer for him. He would lock eyes with his man on defense and work to torment his man. And I loved when guys would sit down thinking they could turn Anish but he started right back at them, then broke them down to start the offense. Anish may jump to the spot on defense as well as anybody plus his basket attack was solid this weekend too.
JT Thornton of WOTN (6’3 2023 of Lakeville North), My other favorite? JT Thornton (spelled Thorton in the guide so I am still not sure which way). JT may have been the hardest player to screen at the event. The WOTN defensive talk was good so that was the start and then JT was able to read the play quickly allowing him to get over the screen or physically battle to the spot if contact got him. JT also attacked the rim relentlessly for scores. Loved watching him play, looking forward to seeing what’s next for him.
