Last week we updated our 2021 players rankings for the last a final time before they head to their next destinations. As usual, I’ll focus on the Baltimore prospects that appeared in the rankings breaking them down by position. I’ll start with the Baltimore point guard prospects.

[player_tooltip player_id="902001" first="Ryan" last="Conway"] | Dulaney

Ranking: No. 9

Positional Ranking: No. 2

Conway had no opportunity to hit the court officially this winter due to COVID forcing all Maryland Public Schools to cancel the season. The 6-foot-2 point guard is headed to Seton Hall next season and should bring a nice mixture of scoring and versatility as a ball-handler for the Pirates as he gets set to take on tough Big East competition.

[player_tooltip player_id="712769" first="Jalen" last="Bryant"] | John Carroll

Ranking: No. 19

Positional Ranking: No. 5

Bryant capped his high school career off with a monumental upset win in the BCL championship game over the No. 1 seeded St. Frances Academy Panthers. Bryant was largely responsible for getting his team started on what would eventually be a nine-game winning streak to end the season. The 5-foot-10 point guard proved himself on both sides of the floor throughout his senior year and became a legitimate scoring threat who could log 20+ with regularity. His recruitment is puzzling to this point, though. Bryant has a ton of Division III schools that are interested as well as a few from the Division II variety. What his plan or timeline is remains unknown, but I assume he’ll be coming to some sort of decision sooner rather than later.

[player_tooltip player_id="902040" first="Trae" last="English"] | Poly

Ranking: No. 46

Positional Ranking: No. 9

English was another senior who unfortunately had his season taken from him, but through organizing scrimmages, was able to gather some film and display his progress. English has improved drastically since last season into a better scorer from three and mid-range. He increased his athleticism since the summer and can finish at the rim in space. The 5-foot-10 point guard is known for being one of the most tenacious defenders in the state along with [player_tooltip player_id="712769" first="Jalen" last="Bryant"]. English received an offer from Gannon a couple of weeks ago, but has yet to make a decision. The prep route is a possibility, but similar to Bryant, time is of the essence.

[player_tooltip player_id="904668" first="Elijah" last="Davis"] | St. Frances

Ranking: No. 47

Positional Ranking: No. 10

Davis had a strong start to his senior season against national competition that resulted in him receiving and offer from head coach Lindsay Hunter of Mississippi Valley State. Davis accepted the offer almost immediately and continued to play his role as facilitator for the Panthers, helping lead them to a perfect 15-0 record heading into the BCL title game. Davis is the ultimate table-setter who brings endless energy at the defensive end and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him work his way onto the floor for short stints as a freshman or sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id="775363" first="Darrius" last="Tilghman"] | Parkville

Ranking: No. 66

Positional Ranking: No. 13

Tilghman presents great size for his position at 6-foot-4. The southpaw had a productive junior season for Parkville as their season was cut short due to COVID the day of the state final four games. Tilghman didn’t get the chance to play his senior season, but should have a shot in cracking the rotation at Chestnut Hill next season as a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049643" first="Jalen" last="Bouknight"] | Archbishop Spalding

Ranking: No. 100

Positional Ranking: No. 18

Bouknight played a valuable role for the No. 2 Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers this season. He had a nice showing in the semifinal despite his team coming up short against John Carroll. The 6-foot-2 guard isn’t necessarily elite at any specific area of his game, but he’s a well-rounded guard who could be considered a combo at the right level. Division III programs should be tracking Bouknight closely and trying to land his services.

[player_tooltip player_id="902076" first="Anthony" last="Smaldore"] | St. Paul’s

Ranking: No. 102

Positional Ranking: No. 19

I was unable to catch Smaldore in action this season, but throughout the summer he impressed me with his willingess to do the small things that help make his team better. He plays with 100 percent effort at all times, competes at a high level defensively and understands when to pass or when to shoot from his position. His recruitment is unknown, but Division III programs looking for a serviceable and gritty point guard should look into Smaldore.

[player_tooltip player_id="902060" first="Jeremiah" last="Stanton"] | Gerstell

Ranking: No. 103

Positional Ranking: No. 20

Stanton was a steady producer for Gerstell this season, who struggled mightily in the A Conference. The 5-foot-11 point guard had much of the scoring responsibility, but also had to get others involved in order to put his team in a position to compete. Stanton has improved his finishing on drives and become more crafty to avoid opposing shot blockers. Immaculata is the program recruiting Stanton most aggressively, but he has still not made a final decision on where he’ll attend college.

[player_tooltip player_id="1106969" first="Evan" last="Flaks"] | Pikesville

Ranking: No. 109

Positional Ranking: No. 23

Flaks was another public school prospect that didn’t have a chance at a senior season, but he put together a nice summer for Team Choo. The 5-foot-9 floor general is a scrappy defender who does a nice job of pressuring the ball and remaining active in passing lanes when playing off it. Offensively he’s a guy who can get his team into halfcourt sets against pressure while being a scoring threat from three. Flaks has a quick first step that allows him to create paint touches and generate open shots for others. A number of high-academic Division III’s are in pursuit of Flaks.
