Sectional 39

The Blackford Sectional kicked off with what seemed like a preliminary matchup before the heavyweight bout, but both games ended up being very good. Eastbrook took on Sheridan in the opening matchup in which Sheridan had control for the majority of the game, but with every run by Sheridan, Eastbrook had one of their own to keep the game within reach. The Blackhawks took a 10-point lead with 4 minutes remaining but missed free throws by Sheridan and multiple threes by Eastbrook got them back in the game. In the end, Sheridan was able to hit two free throws with 4 seconds to go to extend their lead to 4 and take home a 53-49 victory. Sheridan was led by Silas DeVaney with 18 points. Other top players included Cole Watts with 13 points and 5 assists and [player_tooltip player_id="1139234" first="Ethan" last="Moistner"] with 11 points. Blackford went into the half with a 28-26 lead. Madison-Grant had several chances to cut the lead back to one possession, but by the end of the game, their shots stopped falling leaving Blackford with a 63-53 victory.
In Southridge, the home team took control early on, but Evansville Mater Dei fought back like they always do. The start of the fourth quarter was all [player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] as he threw down a monster dunk and then scored an and-one to extend the lead. After this momentum shift, the Raiders never gave control back to Mater Dei. Southridge was led by [player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
In the second matchup of the Sectional, the favorite, South Spencer, took on Forest Park. South Spencer started quickly going 5-5 from the floor and taking a 13-5 lead.
Sectional 40

One of the bigger surprises of the night came with Wapahani and Winchester. Winchester was the favorite to win their Sectional, but Wapahani’s guards were the difference. Winchester wasn’t able to get [player_tooltip player_id="783175" first="Payton" last="Sparks"] as involved as they would have liked, and Wapahani did a great job keeping him off of the glass. All of this led to a 45-38 victory for Wapahani. The Raiders were led by sophomore, Aidan Franks, with 22 points. Isaac Andrews, a freshman, also added 15 points and 7 rebounds. This young Wapahani team is going to be very good in the coming years, and they will take on Lapel on Friday night at 6:00.
