It is Championship Saturday in Indiana, so let’s take a look at the top five championship games in each class across the state of Indiana.

4A

Brownsburg vs. Plainfield (Sectional 12 at Avon) - Saturday at 7:30

In what is arguably the best game in the state tonight, Plainfield takes on Brownsburg. These two teams did not play each other during the season, but they both come in playing great basketball. Brownsburg has won 10 of 13 with their losses coming to Carmel, Lawrence Central, and Pike. Plainfield has won 20 of 21 with their one loss coming at Silver Creek. This should be a great matchup with [player_tooltip player_id="874109" first="Pierce" last="Thomas"] and [player_tooltip player_id="874172" first="Ian" last="Scott"] being the players to watch.

South Bend Riley vs. South Bend Adams (Sectional 3 at Michigan City) - Saturday at 8:00

Adams beat Riley by 23 back just two weeks ago, but [player_tooltip player_id="569313" first="Blake" last="Wesley"] was held to just 6-18 shooting and 1-8 from three. He is not going to shoot that poorly again, and with his firepower, Riley always has a chance. South Bend Adams comes in at 23-1 with the one loss coming at Warren Central by 7 at the end of January.

North Central vs. Lawrence North (Sectional 10 at Indianapolis Tech) - Saturday at 7:30

North Central comes in playing their best basketball of the season, but they are going to need something special to take down Lawrence North. LN has survived games with Cathedral and Warren Central in the first two rounds, so fatigue could be an issue as North Central has only played one game. [player_tooltip player_id="769659" first="Leland" last="Walker"] is going to be the difference-maker in this one.

Bloomington South @ Bloomington North (Sectional 14 at Bloomington North) - Saturday at 7:30

Bloomington South and Bloomington North didn’t get to play during the regular season due to COVID-19, so naturally, they will play in Sectional. South has won 19 of 20 with their one loss coming in the Wabash Valley Classic finals to Greencastle. North has struggled as of late, but they have the firepower with [player_tooltip player_id="783176" first="Isaac" last="Vencel"] and [player_tooltip player_id="870215" first="Nick" last="Klaiber"].

Ben Davis vs. Pike (Sectional 11 at Decatur Central) - Saturday at 7:30

Ben Davis beat Pike by 4 in the first game of the season, but both of these teams have changed in major ways. Ben Davis now has [player_tooltip player_id="529593" first="Jayden" last="Brewer"] playing which elevates their play in a major way. Pike has improved as a team and has playmakers all over the court at all times. Quite a few college stars in this game.

3A

Connersville @ Greensburg (Sectional 12 at Greensburg) - Saturday at 7:30

Connersville beat Greensburg at Greensburg in overtime to win the EIAC title. Greensburg has won Sectional titles in 8 of the last 9 years, and Connersville is looking to win just their third Sectional title since 1997. Connersville is a very physical defense, and they are going to try to make it as low-scoring as possible. If you like physical defense, this is the game for you.

Fort Wayne Dwenger vs. Leo (Sectional 22 at Woodlan) - Saturday at 7:30

Dwenger hasn’t won a Sectional title since 2015. Leo won their first since 2002 last season and is looking for back-to-back this season. Dwenger won at home against Leo by 4 in mid-February, so this one should be just as good of a game this time. Watch for [player_tooltip player_id="874150" first="Blake" last="Davison"] to be the difference-maker for Leo.

Brebeuf Jesuit vs. Guerin Catholic (Sectional 27 at Lebanon) - Saturday at 7:30

Guerin took down Brebeuf in mid-January by 15, but Brebeuf is playing better basketball as of late. It is going to be a battle of the guards vs. bigs with [player_tooltip player_id="1077028" first="Joseph" last="Bobilya"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1077027" first="Kaleb" last="Edwards"] vs. [player_tooltip player_id="783202" first="Evan" last="Altman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="870225" first="Billy" last="Smith"]. Brebeuf is looking for back-to-back titles, and Guerin is looking to end a five-year drought.

NorthWood @ West Noble (Sectional 21 at West Noble) - Saturday at 7:30

NorthWood has won 7 of the last 9 titles, and West Noble is still looking for their first. West Noble won at home by 4 back in mid-January, so they know they can win. They also will have the home-court advantage. This one is basically a coin flip on who is going to come out on top.

Norwell @ Mississinewa (Sectional 23 at Mississinewa) - Saturday at 7:30

Mississinewa beat Norwell by 18 in the first game of the season, but it has been a long time since that game. Neither of these teams has been playing particularly well as of late. [player_tooltip player_id="963899" first="Tai" last="McClung"] is going to be the player to watch in this one for Mississinewa. Norwell is looking for their second straight Sectional title, and Mississinewa is looking for their first title since 1954.

2A

South Spencer @ Southridge (Sectional 48 at Southridge) - Saturday at 8:00

This game represents the true best team vs. best player mentality. [player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] has been outstanding for the Raiders this season, but he hasn’t gotten as much help as they would like. South Spencer has five or six guys that can get into double figures on any given night, and they play very unselfish basketball. South Spencer beat Southridge by 10 earlier in the year, but the Raiders will have the home crowd on their side.

Lewis Cass vs. Rochester (Sectional 37 at Delphi) - Saturday at 7:30

Lewis Cass beat Rochester by 14 at the end of December, but that is Rochester’s lone loss of the season. They have won 14 in a row since that loss. Rochester is looking for back-to-back titles, and Lewis Cass is looking for their first in the last seven years.

Wapahani vs. Frankton (Sectional 40 at Elwood) - Saturday at 7:30

According to the ratings, neither of these teams were supposed to reach the finals, but they pulled off upsets over Winchester and Monroe Central. Frankton has won 7 in a row and 9 of 11. Wapahani has won 8 of 10. Wapahani is looking for back-to-back titles, and Frankton won in 2015, 2017, and 2019, so the trend says they will win again in 2021.

Parke Heritage vs. North Putnam (Sectional 43 at Cloverdale) - Saturday at 7:30

Parke Heritage beat North Putnam by 13 back in December, but North Putnam has won 10 of their last 12. The big matchup is going to be [player_tooltip player_id="935724" first="Christian" last="Johnson"] vs. [player_tooltip player_id="874196" first="Mason" last="Brooks"]. Neither of these teams is used to success in basketball. Parke Heritage won their first-ever Sectional title last year, and North Putnam hasn’t won one in 20 seasons.

Rossville vs. Carroll (Flora) (Sectional 38 at Fountain Central) - Saturday at 7:30

Carroll beat Rossville by 3 in December. Before losing their last two games of the regular season, Carroll had won 18 games in a row. Rossville won last season for the first time since 2015. Carroll (Flora) won 4 Sectional titles in a row from 2008 to 2011, but these are the only titles that they have won.

1A

Indianapolis Tindley @ Indianapolis Lutheran (Sectional 59 at Indianapolis Lutheran) - Saturday at 7:30

These two teams haven’t played this season, but they are currently trending in different directions. Indianapolis Lutheran has been on fire as of late, winning 18 of their last 19. Meanwhile, Tindley has lost 4 of their last 8. Indianapolis Tindley won Sectional titles from 2015 to 2018. Indianapolis Lutheran is looking to win their first title since 2017.

Lafayette Central Catholic vs. Covington (Sectional 54 at Attica) - Saturday at 7:30

This is the Sectional final that everyone was looking forward to, and it is the one we got. Lafayette Central Catholic won 18 Sectional titles in a row, but they have only won one in the last four seasons. Meanwhile, Covington has won Sectionals for five years in a row.

Loogootee vs. Barr-Reeve (Sectional 63 at North Daviess) - Saturday at 7:30

Barr-Reeve beat Loogootee by 3 points back in mid-January. They have a combined record of 44-5 this season, and the winner of this has to be the favorite to win the State championship. These two teams have combined to win 8 of the last 9 titles in Sectional 63, and they are always near the top of 1A.

Trinity Lutheran @ West Washington (Sectional 62 at West Washington) - Saturday at 7:30

West Washington beat Trinity Lutheran at Trinity Lutheran back in December, but it has been a long three months since then. West Washington has won 3 of the last 5 Sectional titles, and Trinity Lutheran has not won since 2014.

Elkhart Christian vs. Fremont (Sectional 51 at Bethany Christian) - Saturday at 7:30

Elkhart Christian pulled off the upset over Bethany Christian on Friday, and now, they face a tough matchup with Fremont. Fremont is looking for their first Sectional title since 2005 and just their second since 1973. Elkhart Christian has won 2 of the last 3 Sectionals.
