Who made the Mr. Basketball top ten? Who are the favorites? Everybody likes to talk snubs, we throw out our top five snubs from the list. Here is this year’s top ten group, a solid ten players.

The Favorite

[player_tooltip player_id="532574" first="Chet" last="Holmgren"] of Minnehaha Academy

Maybe the biggest runaway winner for Mr. Basketball of all time. Chet is the national player of the year so yeah he is going to be your Minnesota Player of the Year. His incredible numbers and outstanding performances against top bigs in the state (Morgan, Townley, Paulson, etc) and players from out of state as well (this winter and back in the fall). The question now is, greatest high school player of all time in Minnesota? Chet has made his case. Good luck finding a guy who impacts the game both ways at the level Chet does playing against a tough schedule.

Top Contender

[player_tooltip player_id="567035" first="Will" last="Tschetter"] of Stewartville

After a short stint on the bench in street clothes because of a wrist injury, the Michigan bound [player_tooltip player_id="567035" first="Will" last="Tschetter"] is back on the court. Will is averaging 31 and 11 for a top ten team in Class AA.

My Current Final Five

At this point who do I think would join Chet and Will in the final five (from the list of ten that was announced today)? I would go with"

[player_tooltip player_id="532587" first="Andrew" last="Morgan"] of Waseca: A double-double average for the top ranked team in Class AA. Morgan - who is headed to North Dakota State - had 18 points,12 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks in a recent blowout win over ranked Marshall. Morgan also had 26 points and nine boards making 11 of 17 shots versus Minnehaha.

[player_tooltip player_id="567044" first="Francis" last="Nwaokorie"] of Champlin Park: Francis is averaging 19 plus points and 13 boards a game for the undefeated number one ranked team in Class AAAA. Just had a monster 32 point, 13 rebound game against Totino-Grace and then had 25 and 18 against Park Center! Headed D1 to UC-San Diego.

[player_tooltip player_id="774746" first="Joshua" last="Strong"] of Champlin Park: Can’t go all bigs can we? Usually I wouldn’t go two guys from the same team but Strong has been the best senior guard in the state. Strong is averaging 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals a game for the top ranked team in the state. Has had some rough shooting games as of late (33 points in last three games combined) but still leading his team to wins. Signed with UMD.

Henry Shannon IV of Eastview - The Eastview forward that has exploded this year. Last year he was on JV. This year Shannon is the best player for the third ranked team in the state.

The "Snubs"

You always have to talk snubs right? Wouldn’t be a list if you didn’t talk snubs. Here is my list of five in ABC order:

[player_tooltip player_id="774736" first="Cade" last="Haskins"] of DeLaSalle - scoring 16 a game, headed to Dartmouth

[player_tooltip player_id="680229" first="Hercy" last="Miller"] of Minnehaha Academy - scoring a dozen a game for the state’s best team

[player_tooltip player_id="774734" first="Reid" last="Patterson"] of Lakeville South - scoring 17.5 a game, has hit some huge shots this year, headed to CSP.

[player_tooltip player_id="567037" first="Joshua" last="Streit"] of Eden Valley-Watkins - Has his team at 16-2 averaging 20/10, headed to North Dakota State.

Davon Townley of Minneapolis North - Averaging 15.5 points and nine boards a game for a top two Class AA squad, headed to Penn State for football.

And.... [player_tooltip player_id="774897" first="Griffin" last="Rushin"] of Brainerd. I think Griffin is the state’s best kept secret. He’s averaging 22.5 points, nine boards, and a couple assists and blocks a game for a 14-2 team.
