After some research, I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw and was ready to have him high in our first class rankings.
However, I got word that the kid had transferred to National Christian, and luckily they had come down to a few events in the Richmond area. On a team loaded with talent and upperclassmen, Coleman started and showed a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor. I caught up with him and asked him about the move and a little bit about his game.
“It’s a better opportunity for myself,” Coleman said about the move. “I’m able to get in the gym almost every day and I’m getting better as I’m working on my handles and my shot. It was just better for me, much better competition with this group.”
The 6’5” wing already has a terrific frame and the ability to play and guard multiple positions on the floor. When asked about how he would describe his game, he says there’s a lot of things he can do.
“I’m an all-around player,” Coleman said. “I play defense a lot and can guard all over the floor, offense comes second and the game comes to me that way.”
Coleman is already very good at a lot of things, but he knows the value of hard work and knows what he needs to work on to take his game to the next level.
“I know I need to continue to work on my handles, my shot and getting to the rim and being more explosive.”
Despite showing tons of potential moving forward and tracking as a possible high major kid, Coleman is still completely unknown to college coaches as he says he hasn’t heard from any so far. I asked him why coaches should start to get him on their radar, and he says it’s his work both on and off the court.
“I’m a team player and I’m a leader. I get my teammates involved, I’m good in school and good in the classroom and work hard.”
Coleman will be playing on the Adidas 3SSB Gauntlet with New World out of DC and says he wants to show that he can score it and do whatever he needs to on the court. He’s a high level prospect that is already very talented and still has room to get better, and once coaches get eyes on him he’s going to blow up moving forward.
