There are just two teams remaining in the Class 3A state tournament following the Semi-State matchups on Saturday. Here is a breakdown of the semifinal games and some standout performances from the weekend.

Silver Creek 54, Guerin Catholic 46

Going into the matchup, Guerin Catholic knew it had to limit the star trio for Silver Creek of [player_tooltip player_id="529572" first="Trey" last="Kaufman"], [player_tooltip player_id="569321" first="Kooper" last="Jacobi"] and [player_tooltip player_id="769684" first="Branden" last="Northern"]. And, for the most part, it did a good job at keeping the big plays from that group to a minimum. But, that didn’t last too long as the trio combined for 42 points (Jacobi - 15, Kaufman - 15, Northern - 12). A close game throughout, Silver Creek wasn’t able to put a strong hold on the lead until a 10-1 run halfway through the fourth quarter to take a 12-point lead with three minutes left. [player_tooltip player_id="1077027" first="Kaleb" last="Edwards"] led Catholic with 14 points, but it was the performance of Silver Creek on Catholic’s [player_tooltip player_id="1077028" first="Joseph" last="Bobilya"] that was the big story. Following a 40-point effort in the Regional Championship, Bobilya was held to just two points against the Dragons, being defended by Trey Schoen for a large part of the game. Silver Creek now moves onto the State Championship in two weekends from now.

Leo 61, South Bend St. Joseph 59

It was a furious comeback for Leo on Saturday as it erased a 16-point deficit to storm back for the win. A 35-19 halftime lead for St. Joseph was in large part due to 20 points from JR [player_tooltip player_id="647193" first="Douglas" last="Konieczny"] and 52 percent shooting as a team from the field. Then, the game turned as St. Joseph shot just 29 percent in the second half, including 0 points from Konieczny after halftime. [player_tooltip player_id="963219" first="Will" last="Terry"] had 16 points and [player_tooltip player_id="769712" first="Cole" last="Hatkevich"] added 14 for St. Joseph. For Leo, it was Blake Davison and [player_tooltip player_id="963913" first="Zack" last="Troyer"] who both had 17 points each. [player_tooltip player_id="870240" first="D.J." last="Allen"] added 13 points as that trio scored 30 combined points in the final 16 minutes. It was a 12-5 run in the third quarter and then a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter that brought Leo back within striking distance. Then, a floater from Davison with 1.3 seconds left lifted Leo to the win.
