Carmel vs Gary West

Heading into this one, it was expected that this game was going to a back and forth contest and it most certainly was. In overtime, Carmel was able to defeat Gary West 53-50. Both teams never really got on any sort of run as it was pretty tightknit throughout the entire game. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="963940" first="Connor" last="Gioia"] and [player_tooltip player_id="874131" first="Brian" last="Waddell"] were the two that stepped up and led the charge this game for Carmel as Gioia dropped 16 points and Waddell with 13 points. On the other end, Gary West had two really good performances from two of it’s own as well as [player_tooltip player_id="783152" first="Quimari" last="Peterson"] dropped 16 points and [player_tooltip player_id="874114" first="Chrishawn" last="Christmas"] with 12 points. This really was a game of unlikely players stepping up for each of their teams when it counted. With the win, Carmel goes on to play in their 3rd straight State Title game.

Bloomington South vs Lawrence North

This game was an intense and emotional one that saw Lawrence North survive Bloomington South 54-52. Going into this post-season, nobody was really giving Bloomington South much of a chance to make it this far but man did the Panthers fight until the very end. In what was a controversial ending to what was a fantastic game, with Bloomington South down three with a little over 3 seconds left, South’s Patrick Joyce nailed what was almost a game tying 3 but unfortunately was waved off after a foul was called on the floor. Joyce would go onto shoot 2 FTs and would make the first but miss the second where his teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="783201" first="Joseph" last="Bomba"] would just barely miss the game tying putback. Lawrence North’s [player_tooltip player_id="783180" first="Shamar" last="Avance"] had a big game with 16 points where his teammate Donaven McCulley helped out with 15 points and 7 rebounds. South senior duo [player_tooltip player_id="874119" first="Trevor" last="Taylor"] (22 pts) and [player_tooltip player_id="783201" first="Joseph" last="Bomba"] (21 pts) led the Panthers in scoring in their final high school game. With the win Lawrence North goes on to face Carmel in their first State Championship game since the 2005-2006 season.
