Erwin missed some time for the Indians after breaking a bone in his wrist, but is back and is highly productive. A do-it-all player, the 6-5 wing is capable of filling up the stat sheet in a multitude of ways. He’s a versatile defender with the quickness to guard smaller players, and the length and physicality to bang with bigger players on the block. He showed an improved jumper, knocking down 2 of 3 attempts from behind the arc en route to 12 points. He also chipped in two blocks and a steal, showing impressive help defense, coming out of nowhere for a huge block.
Preston Ries, Monticello (2024)
Ries plays a little bit in the post, but will likely project as more of a wing moving forward. He’s a big, 6-1 freshman with a nice looking stroke from behind the arc and plenty of confidence. He knocked down back-to-back 3s for the Panthers in the first half, which accounted for all six of his points, but he’ll be a name to monitor moving forward. He’s seeing a lot of action for one of the best teams in 3A.
Cole Hrubes, Kennedy (2021)
Hrubes is an intriguing prospect because of his size and length. The 6-6 wing shot 2-5 from behind the arc in the Cougars loss to Western Dubuque, and showed some playmaking ability, finishing with 5 assists and 4 steals. His length can be a difference-maker, and if he’s knocking down shots consistently, he could be an impact player at the next level.
Caleb Schlaak Caleb Schlaak 6'7" | SF Kennedy | 2021 State IA , Kennedy (2021)
Schlaak, a 6-7 wing who can handle the ball and score from all three levels, will play his college ball at D2 Truman State. He’s got great length and seems to play playing a bit more physical than he did last year. He took it hard to the rim a few times in their loss to Western Dubuque and didn’t shy away from contact. He’s patient and shows good footwork on post touches, and has a smooth jumper with range out to the arc.
Gunner Meyer Gunner Meyer 6'5" | SF Wapsie Valley | 2022 State IA , Wapsie Valley (2022)
Meyer has had an up-and-down year for the Warriors after having a breakout showing at State last year, but he’s an intriguing prospect. At 6-4, he’s an excellent, springy athlete who runs the floor well. He showed a smooth release on his jumper, and he gets good lift on his shot. I’d like to see him become more assertive and look to take over games. He’s the most talented player on the floor in most of the games that the Warriors play, and I’d like to see him show that more often. He finished with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against Jesup.
