Micah Kobuczewski, senior, Seaman:
The versatile senior has seen his role diminish this season. But he was big in Tuesday’s win over Hayden. The 6-foot-1 wing can bang inside, handle the ball, direct the offense, and he can most definitely shoot it from the perimeter. He hit 4-6 attempts from the field to record 10 points in the win.
Casen Stallbaumer, junior, Seaman:
Seaman has already won more league games this year than they won all games last season. A big reason is that the Vikings are a deep team of guys willing to play roles. Stallbaumer is an experienced player who doesn’t try to do too much, yet is productive, particularly on the boards and defending in the lane. Occasionally he will toss in 7, 8, 9 points for the Vikes. Tuesday he scored 7 in the win against Hayden.
Geivonnii Williams, senior, Hayden:
Williams is, in a way, significant for what he didn’t do on Tuesday. He lead the Wildcats to a big lead early, but suffered an injury and was unable to stay in the game. Hayden wound up losing to Seaman, demonstrating how valuable Williams is. During the time he was in, Williams hit 3-3 from the line and had 12 points.
Joe Otting Joe Otting 6'3" | C Hayden | 2023 State KS , sophomore, Hayden:
Otting played some as a freshman, but he’s still establishing himself for the Wildcats. Occasionally his playing time dips and his point output is low. The big man moves well for his size, has great coordination, and is developing his body as he matures. He had 10 in the loss to Seaman and posting 12 against Topeka West the last time out.
Corey Powell Corey Powell 6'4" | PF Highland Park | 2021 State KS , senior, Highland Park:
A lot was expected of Powell after he earned WHAT all state honors as a junior, then honed his skills with WHO last summer. Things haven’t gone all that smoothly for the 6-foot-7 man-child this year. But he still has the power/agility combination and the great coordination to be special. He tore up Manhattan for 27 points in a convincing 61-47 win.
Marque Wilkerson, senior, Topeka West:
Not a lot needs to be said about Wilkerson’s performance against Junction City. He did what he has done all season – play a variety of roles and come through in the clutch. Wilkerson hit free throws down the stretch to hold off the Blue Jays 56-54. He finished with 21 to lead the Chargers. His five-game stretch: 19, 27, 22, 25 and 21 on Tuesday.
Xavier Alexander, sophomore, Topeka West:
Alexander’s role continues to grow. Tuesday he nearly outscored big brother Tre Alexander Tre Alexander 6'3" | CG Topeka West | 2021 State KS , who just happens to be one of the most dynamic players in the state. Xavier tossed in 11, including two 3-pointers, while big brother finished with 12.
Noah Hastert Noah Hastert 6'6" | C Cair Paravel | 2022 State KS , junior, Cair Paravel:
Cair Paravel suffered a disappointing loss to Manhattan CHIEF Tuesday. But their big man, 6-foot-6 Hastert was big, tossing in 19 points. The long, even-keeled and fundamentally sound junior is a rock of consistency. He is averaging about 15 points and 9 rebounds on the season. The 79-58 loss to CHIEF was frustrating, but Cair Paravel still has several chances to prove itself with upcoming matches with Lyndon and Lebo.
