The Rock N Ball Winter League in Hammond, Indiana has been a great way for us to keep tabs on prospects from Illinois while there is no high school season. Here we dive into a matchup from this past week in Rock N Ball: Money Squad vs Nunn Better Standouts!

[player_tooltip player_id="920943" first="James" last="Dent"] (Springfield Southeast – 2021)

Dent is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state and he was an absolute force early on in this contest doing what he does best. The wiry and rangy shooting guard was lights out from the perimeter. One of the top shooting threats in the class with his ability to knock down shots at a high rate from deep. Connected on five of them from beyond the arc. Also had a strong baseline take and was fouled on a drive where he almost posterized an opponent. Potential defensively with his length and anticipation as he recorded several steals.

[player_tooltip player_id="920959" first="Nathanael" last="Hoskins"] (Danville – 2021)

Hoskins is a rock solid guard that more D2 programs should take a serious look at. The thick bodied left handed point guard is a crafty playmaker at the point. He picked the opposing defense apart with his passing finding openings in the defense and making the simple pass. His ability to get in the lane where he got fouled or used his go to runner are his two best ways to score. Quality rebounder for a wing. Not the greatest athlete and is a streaky shooter. Underrated guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="765217" first="KJ" last="Debrick"] (Springfield Lanphier – 2021)

Debrick ranks among the best available 2021 post prospects on the board. The Lanphier five man is a major shot blocking presence that forced his opponents to shoot over him once they saw his rim protecting ability early on. Volume rebounder in his area that high pointed them in traffic. Hit a three along with banking in a mid-range shot. Not his forte, but he is starting to make at least one jumper every game we see him.

[player_tooltip player_id="771517" first="Jaylen" last="Drane"] (Simeon – 2022)

This contest was one of the best outings we have seen from the top 10 junior. Drane was aggressive, explosive, and under control throughout the game. He has a wiry and athletic build to go along with great speed. That was used as he burst to the hoop over and over again. Got to the cup both in the half court with magnificent drives weaving through the defense for acrobatic layups and also used his burst in transition to blow past opponents. Crisp ball handling in tight spaces. Finished with scoop shots and an array of nifty layups. Early on hit a step back three and showed flashes as a willing passer.

[player_tooltip player_id="939059" first="Jalen" last="Griffith"] (Simeon – 2023)

Griffith continues to produce. The Simeon lead guard knocked down several key three pointers to get his team going. Shifty ball handler that got in the lane for runners and hit a baseline jumper off the bounce. Active hands on the defensive end allow him to get steals.

[player_tooltip player_id="925193" first="Avyion" last="Morris"] (Simeon – 2022)

Very good game for the diminutive guard from Simeon. Morris hit by our count six runners in the lane. He has tight handles and a quick first step that allow him to get in the paint. Time after time he utilized his float game over Debrick for finishes. Vocal on the defensive end directing his teammates. Plays with speed when he has the ball in his hands.
