On the entire Metro Conference slate of games Saturday (1/23/21) evening, only one game pitted two winning teams going head-to-head against one another. That game saw 7-5 Papillion La-Vista travel to 7-6 Omaha North, and the contest proved to be one of the closest affairs of the evening throughout the metro area.

Despite shooting a blistering 69% from the floor and connecting on 17/22 free shots (77%), Papillion La-Vista had to fend off a mid-fourth quarter 12-2 run from Omaha North that saw the game get within a single possession at 63-60 with 1:43 to play. However, the Monarchs made their remaining six free-throws to collect a solid 69-65 road victory.

The #6 ranked junior according to Prep Hoops did not disappoint. Ingwerson (#24 pictured) might be the best passing wing in the state. His vision at 6’5 was on display all evening long, as he helped navigate Omaha North’s constant full-court pressure. Whether throwing full-court passes with precision, dishing off to shooters like [player_tooltip player_id="958193" first="Chase" last="Lett"] (13 points) and [player_tooltip player_id="1035619" first="Aidan" last="Graham"] (10 points) in the half-court, or dumping the ball inside to [player_tooltip player_id="890579" first="Luke" last="Lindenmeyer"] (game-high 20 points), his passing ability was apparent. Ingwerson wasn’t just a one trick pony this night either; he still ended the evening with 17 points, coming up just one assist (9) short of a double-double in the Monarch’s win. The 205 lbs junior is currently receiving recruiting interest from such programs as Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, Colorado State, Omaha, and North Dakota among others.

[player_tooltip player_id="1031437" first="Mason" last="Strong"] CG Junior 5’11 Omaha North

Strong, the #73 ranked junior in Nebraska according to Prep Hoops, kept the Vikings in the contest the first half then almost helped them win it in the final moments. The 5’11 guard scored a team-high 18 points including 4/9 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Besides shooting with range, Strong (#11 pictured) is a quick guard with an athletic frame that can get to the rim and finish with contact. He also generated a team-high 4 steals of Papillion’s 18 turnovers that helped off-set the Monarch’s hot shooting performance. With the graduation of Vikings senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="890484" first="Curtis" last="Ogba"] this spring, look for Strong to have a significant senior campaign starting next fall.
