Taking a look at the top trends and players in Week 1:

Lexington Catholic - The Knights look like they’re going to be firmly in the mix to win it all this season. They rolled over Holmes on Saturday then handled Highlands fairly easily on Sunday. [player_tooltip player_id="604116" first="Ben" last="Johnson"] gets all the headlines but it’s a true team effort with Catholic as [player_tooltip player_id="926891" first="Jack" last="Gohmann"], Ryan Russell, [player_tooltip player_id="1088851" first="Reece" last="Potter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1043605" first="Hudson" last="Sparks"] are all having strong seasons so far. And they just added a 6’8 transfer in [player_tooltip player_id="1118821" first="John" last="McCreach"] from Michigan. They’ll be a tough out when post season gets here.

Oldham County Basketball - After waiting longer than most everyone in the state, Oldham County public got to hit the court last week and did not disappoint. The 4 teams are 3-1 combined so far but the lone loss was South Oldham losing to Oldham County. It looks like the 3 schools are going to be in the mix to win the 8th region this season. North had 5 scorers in double figures on night one with [player_tooltip player_id="932769" first="Dallas" last="Roberts"] leading the way with 28. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="923005" first="Tyler" last="Slone"] paced Oldham County with 19 and [player_tooltip player_id="926935" first="Cole" last="Davis"] and [player_tooltip player_id="926897" first="Ben" last="Michel"] are leading South with 13 points per game each. Lots of talent in Oldham County as a whole and excited they finally got to tip their seasons off.

2023 Bigs - If there’s one way Kentucky typically lacks, size and post players is it. But it looks like the 23 class could be the exception. With 6’8 John McCrear landing at Lex Cath to team with 6’10 [player_tooltip player_id="1088851" first="Reece" last="Potter"], they are going to be hard to score on around the rim. Potter was a revelation when I saw him Saturday. He’s legit 6’10 and still growing and has some obvious skill. He had a 6 inch growth spurt over the summer. [player_tooltip player_id="1043601" first="Ryan" last="Rose"] of Prestonsburg is a player who stood out on film but I haven’t been able to see live yet. [player_tooltip player_id="932777" first="Chandler" last="Starks"] is leading Covington Catholic in scoring and rebounding as a Sophomore and [player_tooltip player_id="1111949" first="Will" last="Furnish"] of Harrison County has a chance to be very solid. He’s still growing and improving his skill level. As a whole, this Sophomore class is LOADED and it looks like they’re going to have true post players too.
