Continue ReadingThe Tri-County Conference had a solid 2019-20 season as Penns Grove took home the South Jersey Group 1 title. Wildwood, Pitman and Woodstown joined the Red Devils as all four programs won over 20 games. The conference is filled with talented guards who can make an impact at the next level. Here are the top guards ready for a big 2020-21 season.
Keon Sabb, 6’3 SG Williamstown 2022
The Braves have a strong guard group, headlined by Sabb. The dual-sport star is a big-time athlete who loves to finish with authority above the rim. Sabb can blow by his defender off the bounce and is unafraid of drawing contact on his way to the bucket. He skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses his athleticism to make plays on the defensive end. Sabb’s collegiate future is most likely on the gridiron, but he should still have a standout junior campaign for Williamstown.
Diante Miles, 6’0 PG Wildwood 2021
The Warriors went all the way to the South Jersey Group 1 semifinals and should be a team to watch in the Tri-County Conference with Miles coming back. The 6’0 lead guard is capable of putting up points in bunches as he eclipsed 20 points on 12 different occasions. Miles is at his best attacking the basket as he is a good finisher around the rim and draw contact with consistency. He is a solid perimeter shooter from distance and is an underrated passer. Miles is a skilled scorer who should average around 20 points per game in his final season with Wildwood.
Trey Simmons Trey Simmons 5'11" | SG Delsea | 2022 NJ , 5’11 PG Delsea 2022
The Crusaders have to replace three of their top four scorers, but Simmons is ready to be the go-to scorer this season. The 5’11 guard is dynamic with the ball in his hands and is a blur in the open floor. Simmons has a tight handle and uses it to get into the lane. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and is a good rebounder for a guard. Simmons will shoulder a bigger scoring load in 2020-21 and will be Delsea’s leading scorer this year.
Zach Wygand Zach Wygand 6'2" | SG Woodstown | 2021 State NJ , 6’2 SG Woodstown 2021
The Wolverines were one of the top teams in the Tri-County Conference last year and that should not change with Wygand back to run the offense. The 6’2 guard is a deadly shooter from distance capable of burying triples in bunches. Wygand also has a solid mid-range game and can finish around the basket. He is an underrated passer and is a solid on-ball defender. Wygand put up over 500 points in 2019-20 and should be one of the top scorers in the conference this season for Woodstown.
Ryan Roney Ryan Roney 6'0" | SG Gloucester Catholic | 2021 State NJ , 6’0 CG Gloucester Catholic 2021
The Rams had an up-and-down 2019-20 season, but they return their leading scorer in Roney. The 6’0 guard is capable of scoring points in bunches with five 30-point games last season. Roney has a good handle and makes plays when he gets into the lane. He does not mind contact on his way to the bucket and is an underrated defender. Roney has had a strong varsity career for Gloucester Catholic and will end it on a high note in 2019-20.
