Saturday December 12th I attended Gerry Frietas Arizona Winter Showcase at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

I didn’t stay long due to COVID-19 but I watched a few games on BallerTV plus I watched 4 teams live as well.

Some talented teams came from WA, NM, CO, CA, NV and a couple local AZ teams.

Here were some of the junior standouts I viewed:

[player_tooltip player_id="1029812" first="Anderson" last="Wilson"] Glenview College Prep/AZ

-His catch-3 is improving and he is a natural driver. He makes good passes and can play a little on or off the ball. He is a plus athlete with good length. He defends multiple positions and he is a the glue guy for his team who checks many boxes.

[player_tooltip player_id="674436" first="Cooper" last="Church"] Tahoma/WA (FOH Seattle)

-A good sized forward is starting to fill in. He can face-up from the 3pt line off the catch. He can also create his own shot a little bit but is mainly a spot up shooter. He can block shots and rebound in his area. One of the better bigger forwards in the '22 class from WA.

Andrew Hommes SF 6’5 Lynden Christian/WA (FOH Seattle)

-A fluid forward who can shoot it from the 3pt line with deep range. He has a good motor to rebound the ball out of his area. He can get downhill and finish with his left or right hand. He can block shots, he is pretty good defending in space and can flush it down on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id="674427" first="Quin" last="Patterson"] Mt Si/WA (Team Lavine)

-Not many better shooters at the forward position then Patterson. The younger brother of [player_tooltip player_id="609373" first="Tyler" last="Patterson"] (Montana State day-1 starter as a freshman). He squares up flawlessly and gets good elevation. He can do the 1-2 dribble pull-up and plays a cerebral game.

[player_tooltip player_id="929622" first="Isaiah" last="Watts"] West Seattle/WA (FOH Seattle)

-A smooth combo guard can score it and makes some plays. He has the catch-3 plus a nice pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. His pull-up is a real weapon. He is smart off the pick and roll and has a good feel for the game. He changes speeds smartly and is a pretty good athlete with quick hands and has a burst into the lane. He is the grandson of Slick Watts.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"] Las Cruces/NM (NM Team Swoosh Nike) (Pictured)

-A quickly improving big man who has his best days ahead of him. He is quickly becoming one of the better junior shot blockers in the Southwest. He challenges everything near him and will block or alter the attempt. He rebounds well in his area and can shoot it from the perimeter. He is good off the pick and pop from the elbow and runs the floor swiftly.

[player_tooltip player_id="859643" first="Shane" last="Thomas"] Durango/NV (Purple Reign)

-One of the better catch shooters in the class from the corner. The lefty has a quick release and it looks good off his hands. His pull-up off the dribble is solid but prefers it off catch. He can get into the lane with a nice burst and has the runner. He is competitive on defense and can collect steals and block a shot.

[player_tooltip player_id="712123" first="Elijah" last="Johnson"] Durango/NV (Purple Reign)

-Was recently named the fastest end to end payer in the state and you can see why instantly. He is a blur and seems to get by any opposing defender and then puts the ball straight into a shooting pocket of a teammate. He has good lateral quickness, as he is a top on-ball defender. He gets into the lane and is usually looking to make a play or go all the way and score a layup.
