With his leaping ability and coordination, Houston is one of the best lob finishers you’ll find in Iowa. He is a powerful athlete when he has space to operate. His offensive game is raw, and he lacks fluidity as a scorer. He is a solid rebounder though, and his immense impact on defense sets him apart from several of his contemporaries.
Jake Layman Jake Layman 6'7" | SF Sergeant-Bluff Luton | 2021 State IA – Sergeant Bluff-Luton
A player I predict will attract a lot of attention, and will receive a rankings boost by the end of this season is the 6’7″ forward for the Warriors. He has excellent length, and athleticism to pair with it. He has a nice back-to-the-basket post game, but can stretch it out nearly out to NBA range and shoot comfortably. He has one of the better shooting strokes in the 2021 class. Any limitations of his seem to be physical at this point, as he is pretty lanky. As he grows and fills out, the athleticism and skill will shine even more.
Trae Swartz Trae Swartz 6'4" | SF Ottumwa | 2021 State IA – Ottumwa
Trae is an imposing post presence. He has good athleticism for his size, and very nice footwork down low. With his back to the basket, he loves to go to a half spin around his defender. If you’re defending him, you have to move your feet well enough to keep him in front, and have the strength to absorb his bumps. If you’re too slow or misstep, he uses efficient footwork to get a shoulder past you, and not too many players will muscle themselves back into the play against Trae.
Quincy Wiseman Quincy Wiseman 6'3" | SF Davernport North | 2021 State IA – Davenport North
One of the most efficient players you’ll find in this class is Quincy. Last season as a junior, he shot over 50 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range, and 87 percent from the charity stripe. He can playmake a little bit, and will high-point the basketball and snatch it strongly off the rim, just as he does at receiver on the football field.
Wyatt Heston Wyatt Heston 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State IA – Waukee
Wyatt had nearly identical shooting percentages to Quincy Wiseman Quincy Wiseman 6'3" | SF Davernport North | 2021 State IA last season, just in far fewer attempts. Wyatt proved this summer with Kingdom Hoops that he has expanded his ability on offense, with and without the ball. He is a better athlete now than he was as a junior, too. On a loaded Waukee roster, it’s difficult to see how he will increase his volume, but he will be a better, more capable role player than he was a year ago.
Majok Majouk Majok Majouk 6'7" | SF Sergeant-Bluff Luton | 2021 State IA – Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Just a few minutes of watching Majok on the court will be enough to make his vast upside obvious. He has incredible length, can handle the ball and move well with it, and can space the floor and hit 3-pointers at a respectable clip. He has the potential to be an elite shot-blocker and rim protector, while having the highly coveted skill to defend the perimeter as a big man.
