Of course, this made the selection of a Most Outstanding Player incredibly difficult. Here was your winner, along with some Honorable Mentions:
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
Aidan Rubio Aidan Rubio 6'6" | SF Goodrich | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Goodrich)
I’ve written quite a bit about Aidan Rubio Aidan Rubio 6'6" | SF Goodrich | 2021 State MI lately, and for good reason. He has absolutely dominated the fall showcase circuit here in Michigan. I try to let stats factor in very little in my MOP choices at showcases, but instead I want their games and skills to stand alone. Rubio’s do just that. He’ll be bigger, faster, and more athletic than 99.9% of his competition during high school season. Rubio has excellent positional size to go with elite athleticism. He’s a vicious 2 handed finisher at the rim. Don’t forget, Rubio can step back well beyond the 3 point line and bury a triple.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Malachi Black Malachi Black 6'7" | PF Detroit University Prep Art & Design | 2021 State MI (2021, F, Detroit University Prep Art & Design)
Black was flat out terrific at Let’s Get Ready IV. The young man is a menace to opposing coaches with his well rounded game. At the event, he showed an improved jumper which will serve him very well. It felt like Black could play 3 positions with ease.
Jaylen Hodges Jaylen Hodges 6'3" | PG Bridgeport | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Bridgeport)
Last year, Let’s Get Ready was sort of a coming out party for Hodges. This year, we all knew he was here to stay. He showed off his speed down the floor and athleticism on on offense, breaking down defenders and scoring in solation. Hodges really impressed me with his improved defensive prowess.
Keyon Menifield Keyon Menifield 6'2" | PG Flint Beecher | 2021 State MI Jr. (2021, PG, Flint Beecher)
Menifield Jr. is one of the top talents in the state and he shown as much all summer and fall. The trend continued yesterday as he attacked offensively. Menifield Jr. scored from everywhere on the court, flaunting his first step speed and elite handles.
Brady Titus Brady Titus 5'10" | PG Tri-Unity Christian | 2022 State MI (2022, PG, Tri-Unity Christian)
I still remember the first time Marcus Lancaster introduced me to Titus just before his freshman season. We both claimed the he was a future D1 talent. Well, Titus is making us look really smart. He will also make the coach that gives a 5-10 lead guard a chance at the highest level look incredibly smart as well.
