It certainly has been a very unique offseason. But, the Wisconsin high school basketball season is almost here. To preview the season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at some of the top shooting guards in the 2023 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="953945" first="Mac" last="Wrecke"] -- 6-foot-3 -- Arrowhead

Because [player_tooltip player_id="544505" first="Carter" last="Gilmore"]’s time at Arrowhead has expired, I expect Wrecke to take a big step forward in his development in the 2020-21 season. Scouts are going to fall in love with the small forward’s game because he pairs the grit of a role player with the high-level talent of an elite prospect. He is a terrific athlete who has also proven to be capable of knocking down an outside jumper. Playing a very tough schedule, watch for Wrecke to become one of the better players in Wisconsin.

[player_tooltip player_id="980995" first="Deshawn" last="Webb"] -- 6-foot-3 -- Living Word Lutheran

I really liked what I saw from Webb this past summer on the Prep Hoops Circuit. He made some mistakes, as he clearly has a long way to go in his development. However, I saw a great deal of potential. Webb has long arms, athleticism, and very good basketball IQ. The Living Word Lutheran guard is a really great slasher who can get downhill and finish at the rim. If he continues to perfect his craft, then I think Webb could be a really special player in Wisconsin’s 2023 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="981000" first="Riley" last="Brooks"] -- 6-foot-4 -- Ripon

I have not seen too much of Brooks, but I have been able to watch a good amount of film on him. And what I have seen on film has been super impressive. He averaged just under 12 points per game as a freshman on Ripion’s varsity squad. With the ball in his hands, Brooks is very dangerous due to his ability to score at all three levels. As it stands right now, I think that Brooks is one of the best scorers in the state’s 2023 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="981027" first="Bennett" last="McCormick"] -- 6-foot-2 -- Catholic Memorial

McCormick is a prospect that has all of the tools to become a really good player in the 2023 class. Playing with JH1 Elite, the 6-2 shooting guard was extremely impressive on the AAU circuit. He showed a nice jumper, good slashing skills, and a willingness to be patient and find the open cutter. College coaches of all levels should really take a deep look at McCormick’s game.

[player_tooltip player_id="953956" first="Luther" last="Smith"] -- 5-foot-10 -- Sussex Hamilton

Because he played on a Sussex Hamilton team that was loaded with talent last season, Smith didn’t get too many opportunities to see the floor as a freshman. But I do expect him to earn more playing time as a sophomore. Smith is an athletic, fast guard who will always look to push the pace in transition when he gets the ball in his hands. The shooting guard is also a dead-eye shooter. Smith is a prospect that opposing teams can’t afford to leave open on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id="963146" first="Logan" last="Arndt"] -- 6-foot-2 -- Oconomowoc

I absolutely love everything about Arndt’s game. He is a blue-collar prospect who does a lot of great work on both ends of the court. On offense, he is dangerous as a scorer. On defense, he is not afraid to apply really good ball pressure into whoever he is matched up against. He probably does not have the upside of other prospects in the 2023 class, but I think Arndt will still stand out because of his competitiveness.
