Blaise Porter Blaise Porter 6'1" | PG New London | 2023 State #298 Nation IA , 2023, New London High School
The top PG in the class of 2023 did not disappoint this past Saturday at the Expo, as he was really good at probing the defense off of pick-n-roll situations, and in the half court offense. Porter is patient with the ball and doesn’t try to force drives that aren’t there. He’s a good passer and finds space in the defense and tight windows to spread the ball to his teammates. Porter is a true PG and is only just beginning his prep career with lots of time to develop all aspects of his game.
Keeon Hutton Keeon Hutton 6'3" | SG Sioux City West | 2022 KS , 2022, Sioux City West High School
A sleeper PG prospect in the class of 2022 who really just started to breakout over the course of the last year. Hutton was impressive in the first game of the Expo where he was finding different ways to score the ball. Hutton made 3 point shots, attacked the basket with nifty moves on the ball, and crashed the offensive boards to get easy put backs. Hutton is primed to help lead his Sioux City West team this upcoming season.
Kenzie Reed Kenzie Reed 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA , 2023, Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School
A PG in the 2023 class closely behind Porter is Kenzie Reed Kenzie Reed 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA . One of the quickest first steps from a PG that I’ve seen no matter what class, and has shiftiness to go along with it. He didn’t do a ton of scoring in the Expo this past weekend, but he did things that you like to see from a point guard. Initiating the offense, moving the ball well, making the good decision, and taking care of the ball.
John Miller John Miller 5'10" | PG Davenport Central | 2021 State IA , 2021, Davenport West High School
One of the state’s biggest “bulldog” PG’s, Miller is a tough defender and showed that on Saturday when he was in the game. The way he can get around defenders with his low center of gravity and physicality is hard for opponents to keep him from the lane. This weekend you could see his jump shot has gotten some work since the summer and looked repeatable and smoother. If he can continue to develop that he is a late PG programs should keep an eye on.
Tysonn Burrage, 2022, Davenport Central High School
Burrage has come out of nowhere for me this Fall whether he’s been in the Exclusive or the Expo this past weekend he has shown what a productive player he can be. Burrage doesn’t blow you away with anything specifically, but does use his speed to defend opposing PG’s and get into the lane to make plays for his teammates. He defers to his teammates more than he shoots it, but he has the ability to use touch around the rim and can shoot it a little bit as well.
Samuel Akins, 2022, Dubuque Senior High School
I had never seen Akins before watching him at the Expo, but Akins showed off a knack for attacking at the right place, right time. Understanding the spacing of his offense, and having the ability to break down his defender with a smooth crossover and quick burst towards the hoop is what made Akins’ offense dangerous this weekend. I didn’t see much shooting from Akins, but off the catch he shows capability to shoot it from deep.
