Similar to the Guards, the majority of these players are household names in the Dayton area. However, there are a few guys that are under-the-radar and will have a chance this Saturday to show why they deserve to be considered one of Dayton’s best. In this piece, I take an in-depth look at 6 prospects that will be trying out and break down what makes them some of Dayton’s best.
Rich Rolf Rich Rolf 6'6" | PF Centerville | 2022 State OH (Centerville)- If you solely look at his stats, Rolf doesn’t jump off the page right away. You have to watch him in action to see why he is one of the best prospects out of the Dayton area in the 2022 class. At 6 foot 7, Rolf is extremely versatile. Quick for someone his size, Rich beats you off the dribble with his quickness and finishing ability. Also a very capable defender and showed me over the Summer he could defend both the perimeter and the post. Rolf could see a new role in 2020-21 with Centerville losing their size from a year ago.
Adam Duvall Adam Duvall 6'6" | PF Beavercreek | 2022 State OH (Beavercreek)- Duvall is built like an interior player but has found himself on the perimeter while watching open gyms and AAU. Duvall doesn’t jump out as the most athletic player, but he works his tail off and outhustles and outworks other guys on the floor. Last high school season he stood out as Beavercreek’s best scoring threat and continues to show why he is one of the GWOC’s better scorers regardless of position. His versatility and ability to play inside-out is what makes him such an intriguing prospect and will make him fun to watch.
Jacob Pleiman Jacob Pleiman 6'6" | PF Botkins | 2022 State OH (Botkins)- More than likely you haven’t heard of Pleiman before seeing articles on him this past season. After a strong showing in Fort Wayne this Summer, Pleiman has exploded on the scene and has began to gain attention from college coaches. The 6 foot 5 Power Forward is one of the better finishers you will find and has a very high motor and drive to create opportunities for himself. Aggressive in the paint and comfortable at the rim, Pleiman will excel with a pass-first guard that can create opportunities for Jacob to be scoring at the rim.
Noah Rich Noah Rich 6'5" | SF Franklin | 2022 State OH (Franklin)- Rich showed this Summer that he can can stretch the floor and knock down perimeter shots consistently and efficiently. The 6 foot 6 Wing Forward was more of a role player for the Wildcats as a Sophomore, but with the amount of guards lost last year, he now will be the primary scoring option. Being in Franklin’s program means Rich has a good shooting touch and will sit down and play solid defense. I look for him to show off his deadeye shooting on Saturday.
Dasan Doucet Dasan Doucet 6'4" | SF Fairmont | 2022 State OH (Fairmont)- Doucet had a solid year with Fairmont in 2020, but it was this Summer where I saw what makes him such a unique player. Standing 6 foot 4, Doucet has learned how to use his bigger frame and finessed his slashing style of play to really create opportunities for himself to finish on the drive. He continues to work on his overall offensive game and has a high ceiling for sure. I will be interested to see how this upcoming season goes with Doucet being part of a junior-heavy Firebirds backcourt. His size is going to make things difficult for teams to matchup man-to-man while zones will need to contain his ability to penetrate.
Kylan Tucker Kylan Tucker 6'3" | SF Chaminade Julienne | 2022 OH (Chaminade Julienne) Our last name to mention is another one probably not familiar to many local fans. Tucker was a role player for the Eagles last year that depended heavily on their upperclassmen. This upcoming season, Tucker is going to see a larger role as he is one of the better offensive players returning for this group. The Wing Guard has great size at 6 foot 3 and has such a tough dribble drive to defend. He gets downhill very quickly and once he finds the lane, game over. His finishing ability as well as his overall toughness in the paint is why teams must keep him out if at all possible. Tucker has a calming feel on the floor and does not panic when he sees pressure.
