10 Juniors Ready to Break Out in 2020-21

A closer look at ten class of 2022 prospects primed for breakout seasons this winter...

[player_tooltip player_id="950097" first="Learic" last="Davis"] - Guard/Wing - Milwaukee Bradley Tech

The film is obviously very exciting. Davis is a 6-6/6-7 junior with point guard traits. It doesn’t hurt that he can jump out of the gym either. Most of his sophomore film was essentially breakaway dunks, but from what we’ve seen via live streams, Davis appears to be showing flashes of rounding out his game. Western Illinois, Grambling State, and Tennessee State have all offered thus far. Davis handles the ball so well for his size and gets downhill with ease via limited dribbles. Want to really take a closer look this season and see if Davis can be more than a walking highlight, but he definitely has the makings of a potential top 10 player in the state, if not higher.

[player_tooltip player_id="988983" first="Noah" last="Feddersen"] - Power Forward - Menomonie
[caption id="attachment_1018473" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="988983" first="Noah" last="Feddersen"][/caption]
Size, skill, mobility -- it’s all there for Feddersen. He quietly averaged 13.0 points per game as a sophomore and showed some nice flashes. Over the summer, those flashes started to become more consistent. Feddersen can play with his back to the basket, finish with either hand, and shows some ability to pull bigs away from the rim and attack or shoot from outside the paint. Feddersen is most impressive in the open floor. He runs like a deer and can score transition buckets. Defensively, Feddersen is also very active and protects the rim at a high level.

[player_tooltip player_id="950644" first="Marshaun" last="Harriel"] - Point Guard - Janesville Craig

Not a lot of people around the state know this name yet. Harriel has some of the best speed and open floor ability in his class. He averaged 8.8 points per game as a sophomore, but really made his mark as a passer. Harriel constantly pushes the pace, sees the entire floor, and makes plays for his teammates. A capable scorer, Harriel has no problems taking games over offensively if he’s in a rhythm or he senses that his team is struggling.

[player_tooltip player_id="865847" first="Greg" last="Galloway"] - Small Forward - Oconomowoc

You’re not going to see Galloway rack up a ton of highlights, but this is about as solid and consistent as it gets. Galloway can thrive in a variety of roles and always seems to produce. For Oconomowoc, he’s able to handle the point guard duties and has some unique versatility with his ability to play on the block and create mismatch problems. In AAU, Galloway acts as a prototypical swingman who spaces the floor and hits the open gaps as a slasher. Look for his 8.7 ppg average to jump this season as the Racoons lost a few key seniors from 2019-20.

[player_tooltip player_id="881002" first="Ben" last="Olson"] - Small Forward - Sun Prairie
[caption id="attachment_1071792" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="881002" first="Ben" last="Olson"][/caption]
We’ll see what Big Eight schools end up doing after the conference announced there would be no competition this winter. Prior to that announcement, Olson was a prospect who could make a run at Big Eight Player of the Year as a junior. The 6-foot-3 wing had a huge summer on the AAU circuit. A high-motor, relentless player that does whatever it takes to win, Olson contributed 11.5 ppg last season on a Sun Prarie squad that had two of the best seniors in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1036800" first="Carter" last="Olson"] - Point Guard - Cuba City

Olson is way under-ranked right now, but that will be fixed in the coming weeks. Hidden behind all the talent Cuba City had last season, Olson can flat out play and will be a game-changer for the Cubans in 2020-21. A fast and shifty lead guard who can score, facilitate, and has a motor that just never turns off, Olson shows fantastic ability to carry his teams in a variety of ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="988976" first="Greyson" last="Pritzl"] - Shooting Guard - West Allis Central

Pritzl was fourth on the Bulldogs in scoring last season at 11.2 ppg. Based on the way he shot the ball all summer, his numbers are going to increase substantially. A deadly sharpshooter with unlimited range and confidence, Pritzl just walks in the gym ready to go. He’s also a blue collar player that can take contact at the rim and is willing to make hustle plays that gain extra possessions for his team.

[player_tooltip player_id="865850" first="Mekhi" last="Shaw"] - Point Guard - Eau Claire Memorial

Shaw averaged 9.3 points and 3.0 assists per game as a sophomore. The 5-foot-10 junior really understands the point guard position well. He always does an excellent job of getting his guys orchestrated in sets, making high-quality basketball decisions, and getting others involved until it’s time to look for his own offense. A quick guard with excellent handles, Shaw has shot-creating ability from the outside as well. He’s also a standout defender that brings energy and intensity on that end of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="950099" first="Carter" last="Thomas"] - Forward - Neenah
[caption id="attachment_1012854" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="950099" first="Carter" last="Thomas"][/caption]
The Rockets might be so balanced this season that they could have as many as four breakout players in 2020-21. However, Thomas had too good of a summer to not put on this list. There’s nothing overly flashy about his game. Thomas just has a knack for getting to the rim, can play the ’3’ or the ’4’ effectively, and changes games defensively as well. An athletic 6-foot-6 forward, Thomas generates easy buckets at a high level and is starting to shoot it better from the outside, making him a difficult matchup.

[player_tooltip player_id="988981" first="Landon" last="Van Calster"] - Small Forward - Freedom

Van Calster averaged 12.6 points per game for a Freedom squad that won 20 games last season. Over the summer, he landed a Division 2 scholarship offer from Northern Michigan. At 6-foot-6, Van Calster has some serious mismatch potential. He’s a long wing that shoot it and put it on the deck. His defensive versatility has a ton of value at the next level as well. Van Calster has the lateral quickness to stick with guards on the perimeter and the length to affect shots around the rim.

Others to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="988699" first="Jerome" last="Jacobs"] (Madison West), [player_tooltip player_id="950105" first="Dontrell" last="Bush"] (Racine Horlick), [player_tooltip player_id="865865" first="Nate" last="Forystek"] (Bay Port), [player_tooltip player_id="865840" first="Nathan" last="Gapinski"] (Watertown), [player_tooltip player_id="990559" first="Nate" last="Streveler"] (Stevens Point), [player_tooltip player_id="865862" first="Noah" last="Compan"] (La Crosse Central), [player_tooltip player_id="994379" first="Tre" last="Gordon"] (Kenosha Bradford), [player_tooltip player_id="865853" first="Massimo" last="Malterer"] (Madison East), [player_tooltip player_id="1017073" first="Owen" last="Pawlikowski"] (Kimberly)
