Prep Hoops Illinois recently watched several scrimmages from Breakaway Basketball. Let’s dive into their 17U squad here with the standouts from their scrimmage.

Johnny Falduto (IC Catholic – 2021)

This 5’11” point guard put himself on our radar in this scrimmage. Tough and fiery leader that brings competitiveness at the point guard position. Got a steal on an inbounds pass then finished it with a layup. Also hit a triple.

Jeffrey Grace (York – 2021)

Grace is a big point guard at 6’3” with athleticism. He handled it pretty well taking it at the defense using his left hand well to get to the cup. Banged in a couple of triples along with a baseline jumper.

Aryton Temico (Glenbard South – 2021)

Temico had bit of a quiet showing here, but the 6’4” wing did manage to get to the hoop a few times for layups and slammed home a jam on a strong drive.

[player_tooltip player_id="995970" first="Jack" last="Mielke"] (Downers Grove North – 2021)

The DGN 6’7” power forward was about as on fire as you can be from three during the 3 on 3 portion of the scrimmage. He drained corner threes one after another with the same mechanics and height off the floor each time. High level shot maker. Rebounded well in his area and moved his feet on the defensive end. Solid athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id="995976" first="Connor" last="Jenkins"] (Lincoln Way West – 2021)

Jenkins is a big wing at 6’7” that can hit shots off the catch. Showed some athleticism off with a turnaround jumper in the lane along with a couple of drives.

Quinn Cain (Hinsdale Central – 2021)

Cain emerged with his play as the lead guard on the 3 on 3 team with Mielke. He is a crisp passer with size at 6’5”. Made sound decisions with the rock on the move.

[player_tooltip player_id="920956" first="Luke" last="Moustakas"] (Brother Rice – 2021)

The Brother Rice four man looked lighter on his feet playing well in transition taking it coast to coast a couple times. Face up shooter that knocked in a pair of threes.

[player_tooltip player_id="863598" first="Bobby" last="Durkin"] (Hinsdale South – 2022)

Durkin is a 6’5” wing that runs the floor hard in transition and also took it on his own one time going coast to coast. Was streaky as a shooter, but we all know he can do that.

[player_tooltip player_id="863619" first="Ben" last="VanderWal"] (Timothy Christian – 2022)

One of the more intriguing junior wings in the class. At 6’6” he has positional size and can really shoot it from three. Drilled an array of triples off the catch from the wings. Also displayed his bounce running the floor and finishing in transition. Flashed as a passer and cutter at times too.
