Continue ReadingWhen looking at the 2023 class as a whole, it is apparent the SF/Wing positions are where the majority of the high end talent resides. Most of the prospects highlighted below are HM/MM prospects that will be followed down the road as they continue to add to their games. In this piece, I take a look at some of the best overall prospects in this class.
Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ (Taft)- Griffith debuts as our #1 ranked prospect in the 2023 class and for good reason. The 6’6 WF impressed with Bates Fundamentals after a strong showing with Taft this past Winter. Explosive athlete that can score at a high rate in the paint while also being one of the better defensive players in this class.Uses that length and explosiveness to turn the ball over and allow for finishes above the rim. As he continues to work on his jump shot will continue to attract HM attention as he already has offers from schools like Ohio State and Oklahoma State.
Sonny Styles Sonny Styles 6'4" | SF Pickerington Central | 2023 OH (Pickerington Central)- Styles has exploded on the scene in both football and basketball, showing he could be a HM prospect in both sports. On the hardwood, the 6’4 Wing is a playmaker on both ends of the floor. Moves side to side on the perimeter and can defend 1-3. Uses his long reach to disrupt on the ball. Athletic and capable of rebounding in traffic. Overall does everything well and could jump into Top 5 in the future.
Dailyn Swain Dailyn Swain 6'7" | SF Africentric | 2023 State #81 Nation OH (Africentric)- Swain jumped on our radar as we like his upside with the Nubians. Athletic for his age, the 6’6 WG has great size for a perimeter player and is smart with how he uses his size. Dangerous in transition and capable of being a primary scoring option for his team. Could become a HM prospect as he adds to his frame and shows consistency with his motor.
Devin Royal Devin Royal 6'6" | PF Pickerington Central | 2023 State #49 Nation OH (Pickerington Central)- Royal is another outstanding prospect for the Tigers that showed his two-way capabilities this Summer. Lengthy WF that can be a lockdown defender. Offensively is where Royal impressed me most as he is one of the better finishers in the 2023 class and especially was strong in transition. Capable of playing with his back to the basket and has a plethora of moves to score.
Logan Beaston Logan Beaston 6'4" | SG Tiffin Columbian | 2023 State OH (Tiffin Columbian)- Beaston played up during AAU with Ohio Buckets and showed he belonged and could hang with the older competition. Physically strong for a 6’4 WF and unselfish. Keep the offense moving and doesn’t have to be the primary scoring threat. If he can lock down on his shooting mechanics, he could be a steal for a D2 looking to add an athletic Wing.
