The region’s best players drilled each through a three day event that showcased the game’s future. While the field saw 4 and 5 star recruits at every position, it was the guys on the perimeter that turned out monster performances.
CJ Noland
Point CJ Noland was just as devastating as it sounds. The big guard couldn’t be kept out of the lane or stopped at the rim. He did a great job of managing the game next to his top tier backcourt teammate Cason Wallace Cason Wallace 6'4" | CG Richardson | 2022 State #6 Nation TX . When he played off the ball he shot a high clip from three with at least 2 makes from deep a game.
Cason Wallace Cason Wallace 6'4" | CG Richardson | 2022 State #6 Nation TX
Wallace controlled the game in every aspect. But what continues to wow me is how he does it. From an athletic standpoint, he’s dominant on both sides of the ball. In a game against highly touted competition, he made plays you’ll see in highlight reels before the week is out, including a video game glitch block from a standstill. He’s been on fire for months so it wouldn’t be out of the question to expect a bump in rankings.
Jordan Walsh Jordan Walsh 6'7" | SF Link Academy | 2022 #31 Nation MO
Walsh’s two-way play was stellar, especially against the Division 1 wings on Dallas Showtyme. He showed a tight handle, the ability to create his shot, and a decent catch and shoot game. His long wingspan covered a ton of ground on defense while staying in the pocket of ball handlers. Consistently puts on a show in transition.
Jamyron Keller Jamyron Keller 6'1" | PG Killeen Ellison | 2023 State #154 Nation TX
The two guard continues to wow with athletic finishes. Great frame for the position coupled with a ton of grit. If you don’t box him out, you’ll see the highlight after the game.
Jimel Cofer Jimel Cofer 6'4" | CG Universal Academy | 2021 State TX
Starting with the first events in May, Cofer showed off what it’s like to be a big athletic guard. He finished at the rim with powerful dunks and acrobatic layups many of which were in a crowded lane. The midrange pull up is still a big part of his game, but it feels like his athleticism has taken a step forward with his assertion in the offense. The drive and dish portion of his game was on point to the tune of 5 assists. Big playmaker with a low turnover ratio.
Rylan Griffen Rylan Griffen 6'5" | SG Richardson | 2022 State #72 Nation TX
The dunk contests this rising junior put on in layup lines left me in awe. When the ball tipped that athleticism became a backdrop for a long 6-6 scoring wing that can fill up the cup in transition, midrange, and three. He’s no slouch on defense, but the offensive package this kid has screams consistent offensive output for years to come.
Jaylon Tyson Jaylon Tyson 6'6" | SF John Paul II | 2021 State #66 Nation TX
The Texas Tech commit displayed an ability to take over a game on the offensive end while still making his presence felt on defense. He fits the profile that Beard and Co. look for as a competitive, long, 6-6 forward. Seeing him orchestrate an offense and efficiently score in the high teens and 20s against top defenders is a bright side to his development.
Drew Steffe Drew Steffe 6'6" | PG Frisco Memorial | 2023 State #122 Nation TX
Standing at 6-5 Steffe continues to be one of the best shot makers in Texas’ talented 2023 class. He exploded for 31 against a Texas Pro team filled athletic perimeter defenders. He gets what it means to be an efficient scorer and does it from all three levels. If you run him off the three, floaters and pull up jumpers will follow.
