The 5 guys I highlight below are definitely high level talents that should not only find playing time at the Varsity level come Winter, but could attract attention from colleges as they continue their young high school careers.
Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6'1" | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH (Indy Heat/Centerville)-
Cupps has been one of the most talked about prospects in Ohio since his arrival at Centerville a year ago. In his first AAU season since starting high school, he impressed especially at the Ballin’ Under 1 Roof event. His vision, ability to see the floor, and score in various ways is what makes him so difficult to prepare for defensively. Speaking of defense, Cupps moves well on the perimeter and has become a much better defensive presence on the floor. As he fills his frame out more and grows, Cupps will have an opportunity to find himself on MM/MM+ radars.
Will Maxwell Will Maxwell 6'5" | SF Oakwood | 2023 State OH (All Ohio Red/Oakwood)
I would argue Maxwell has been one of the biggest stock risers out of Dayton in the 15U division. Playing his natural position with All Ohio Red, he confirmed his true offensive firepower. A 6’4 CG, Maxwell can shoot the heck out of the ball, showing he can knock down rushed shots in transition or in half court sets. Having to play more in the post as a freshman at Oakwood, Will has an inside-out feel to his game and especially showed more confidence attacking the rim, whether it be slashing or on the block. Has added some serious elevation in his game and finishing above the rim.
Devin Royal Devin Royal 6'6" | PF Pickerington Central | 2023 State #49 Nation OH (All Ohio Red/Pickerington Central)
The 6’4 SF played hard and played well during live streams running with All Ohio Red. A long athletic player, Royal caught my eye early with his play on the defensive end. Sits down and defends the perimeter. Multi-level scorer on the offensive end creating multiple opportunities for himself in transition and with his back to the basket. Very good talent out in Pickerington and will see an improved role with the Tigers this Winter.
Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ (Bates Fundamental/Taft)-
The 6’6 SF/WF has already made his name known and played well during the summer months running with Bates Fundamentals. A gifted athlete, Griffith has been one of the better on-ball defenders I’ve seen this season. Playing on a team with Tyler Williams Tyler Williams 6'8" | C Brush | 2023 State OH and Marlon Barnes among other high level prospects, Rayvon does not have to be the primary scorer for his squad and can be more versatile in his game. As he improves his midrange touch, he is going to have a chance to attract the attention of more HM schools. Currently holds an offer from Oklahoma State.
Lawrent Rice– (Team Flyght/Wayne)-
Rice is the prospect I have seen the most this Summer and has seen major improvements in his game. The lengthier PG facilitates an offense, but showed off his vast offensive arsenal more in open gym settings. Showing more confidence with his shooting abilities, Rice has went from a pass-first guard his freshman year at Wayne to being a primary scoring threat. With Team Flyght, Rice led the offense with patience and made the right play always. Has picked up offers from Purdue and Central Michigan over the last week.
