The squads are loaded with players who will make an impact at the next level. While it is hard to standout with a room full of talented players, some prospects were able to make an impact throughout the day. Here are the top standouts from the Team Rio University Media/Scouts Day.
Aaron Clark, 6’5 CG 16U 2022
Clark was extremely impressive over the course of the workout as his all-around skillset will be a great addition to St. Benedict’s backcourt. The 6’5 lefty always plays with his head up and has great court vision. Clark was at his best during the live sessions as he was able to break his man down off the bounce and finish around the basket. He plays with poise on the ball and is not rattled when under pressure. Clark is a talented guard prospect who should see his stock rise over the coming months.
Christian Pierre-Louis Christian Pierre-Louis 6'2" | SG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State NJ , 6’2 SG 15U 2023
Pierre-Louis had a solid all-around game as he proved that he can make plays on both ends of the floor. The 6’2 guard attacked the basket hard and played with confidence. Pierre-Louis made smart decisions with the ball in his hands and was unafraid of playing against the 17U players. He played tough defense on Villanova commit Trey Patterson Trey Patterson 6'7" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2021 State #36 Nation NJ when he was matched up with him, even trying for a steal in the backcourt. Pierre-Louis is a tough guard prospect who should continue to make plays for the 15U team.
John Horner John Horner 6'6" | SF St. Augustine | 2021 State NJ , 6’6 SF 17U 2021
Horner may currently be flying under the radar, but he won’t be for much longer with more performances like this. The 6’6 forward attacked the basket hard as he dunked almost everything. Horner did not just dunk the ball as he showed off a nice post game. He worked hard on the glass and made several nice passes in the transition drills. Horner is a skilled wing who should continue to rise up rankings with solid performances for the 17U team.
Isaac Hester Isaac Hester 6'0" | PG Ranney School | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 PG 16U 2023
Hester is the youngest player on the 16U team, but that did not stop him from showing out. The 6’0 guard has a good handle as he was constantly beating his man off the dribble. Hester is a creative finisher around the rim and has a nice mid-range game. He is a good passer and plays with quick hands on the defensive end. Clark and Hester are a solid guard duo who should make it hard for teams to control the 16U backcourt.
Ben Roy Ben Roy 6'2" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State #218 Nation NJ / Jayden Pierre Jayden Pierre 6'2" | PG Long Island Lutheran | 2022 State #109 Nation NY , 6’0 17U 2022
It might be a bit of a cop out to pick two players for one spot, but both of their performances deserved recognition. Roy was tough to contain off the bounce and made several nice layups during the live sessions. Pierre showcased his good handle in the halfcourt and proved he is one of the top athletes in the 2022 class with a nice windmill dunk. They played tough defense on each other and made good lead passes in the transition drills. Roy and Pierre are a talented point guard duo who should help the 17U team this summer.
