August 3rd and 4th Justin Vargas and I put on the 4th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

104 players from Arizona, California, New Mexico and Michigan battled it out. 12 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 4 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw and 6 basketball offers were given out so far.

We will go back and look at each teams players.

Here is Team Oregon State:

Top-20 game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1029812" first="Anderson" last="Wilson"] (South Mountain)

-A versatile forward with a thicker build who can do a little of everything. He handles the ball well like a guard, rebounds the ball at a high rate on both ends of the court, hits the 3, can pull-up from mid-range, gets downhill and makes plays for others with impressive athleticism. He has a high motor and is very competitive. He was a virtual unknown when camp started but he quickly caught everyone's attention.

Top-40 game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1033021" first="Chris" last="Long"] (Vista Grande)

-An intriguing face-up 4-man has deeper range and an easy 3pt stroke. He is a good rebounder in his area on the offensive and defensive end of the court. He had a couple Kevin Love type of outlets and plays a smart floor game. He can make good passes to teammates and will play physically deep inside. He does settle a little for the 3.

[player_tooltip player_id="831118" first="Emery" last="Young"] (Centennial)

-An all-around wing who affects the game in many ways. He is a quick second jumper and rebounds in and out of his area in every game played. He can handle it like a guard and make plays for others. He is a natural downhill player with a huge motor to attack the glass. He can make shots from all 3 levels and is currently best closest to the basket.

Non-Senior All-Star game:

[player_tooltip player_id="814525" first="KJ" last="Perry"] (Gilbert)

-An athletic wing who seems to get better in every outing. He seems to fly in the air with impressive body control to score it in traffic. He is a capable 3pt shooter but is currently best inside. He has active hands and collects steals and if he gets out on the break he may dunk on someone.

Others:

[player_tooltip player_id="809725" first="Joshua" last="Fletcher"] (Agua Fria)

-A strong forward who scores it from inside and out. He can get into the lane and score it through contact but once he gets hot he can make shots from the perimeter as well. He is a true 3/4 type and uses his strength and skill to get the job done plus can clean the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id="973911" first="Carson" last="Carpenter"] (EVAC)

-A true combo guard can score it plus facilitate. He has a good burst to get by his defender and once he is in close, he can make difficult shots in traffic. He can shoot it from the perimeter and is a naturally quick scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1033022" first="Dylan" last="Totherow"] (Sunrise Mountain)

-A smooth wing player can shoot it to the 3pt line and has a high IQ. He can slash to the basket and knows when to cut to the hoop. He is best off the catch from the 3pt line. He handles the ball well and once he gets stronger, he will be even tougher to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1033023" first="Matin" last="Strong Jr"] (Valley Vista)

-A strong upper bodied pure PG has some game to like. He is a good passer and has a quick burst into the lane. He has quick hands and feet to play defense and he plays really hard. He can hit the catch-3 with some consistency.

[player_tooltip player_id="1033026" first="Brandon" last="Ackert"] (Sunrise Mountain)

-An extremely strong power forward is yet another kid that plays hard and would run through a wall to make a play. He has very strong hands and is very hard to move plus he is a natural rebounder. He is very efficient deep inside the paint and he is most likely not done growing.
