August 3rd and 4th Justin Vargas and I put on the 4th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

104 players from Arizona, California, New Mexico and Michigan battled it out. 12 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 4 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw and 6 basketball offers were given out so far.

We will go back and look at each teams players.

Here is Team Arizona:

Top-40 game:

[player_tooltip player_id="827021" first="Carson" last="Ledbetter"] (Casteel)

-A skilled post player has some nice moves he can use to score it in the paint. He can score it with his back to the basket plus face-up from mid-range and in. He also can extend it out to the 3pt line. The lefty is a cerebral player but also his bounce is slowly kicking in heading to his junior year. He pursues the ball to corral the rebound and gives high effort each contest.

[player_tooltip player_id="827013" first="Amir" last="Locus"] (AZ Compass Prep) (Pictured)

-A big upside forward had some wow moments. He can shoot the 3 easily with range and moves impressively up the court. He plays above the rim on the break and had some incredible blocks in the two days. He is a good passer and can hit from mid-range. His main issue currently is his stamina. If he can correct that, he will be a very popular get for college coaches.

Non-Senior All-Star game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1006996" first="Davis" last="Church"] (Casteel)

-A scoring lead guard has a lot of game. He can score it from anywhere on the court and be a flashy player as well. He has deep range on his 3-ball and a super fast trigger. He has a mean pull-up from mid plus he uses a polished floater. He made some nice passes on the two days and is very competitive. His skill and mind work and he will have a big season for the Colts.

Others:

[player_tooltip player_id="1035516" first="Preston" last="Grako"] (Casteel)

-A true combo guard can really shoot the 3, he is a good ball handler and makes good reads. He can use his handle to get inside and use the floater. He has a quicker burst and is a decent slasher.

[player_tooltip player_id="1035517" first="Noah" last="Tapia"] (Hamilton)

-A PG with a good feel for the game. He can pull-up from mid-range and shoot the 3. He has a high IQ for the game and is always looking up to survey the scene. Once he gets a little stronger, he will be even tougher to handle.

[player_tooltip player_id="1035129" first="Adrien" last="Armstrong"] (Carl Hayden)

-A long quick twitched athlete has a ton of upside. He just picked up the game two years ago and is making strides. He runs the floor, he is a multi-positional defender and a natural rebounder. He can improve on his perimeter shooting but is a capable 3pt shooter. His motor works and gives high effort. He also happen to be Zylan Cheatham’s (ASU/NBA) nephew.

[player_tooltip player_id="814512" first="Terrell" last="Doxie"] (Valley Vista)

-A tough minded defensive player that can guard multiple positions. He is an improving shooter and uses his good speed to get passed his defender and score it near post defenders. Yet another good young player for Coach Isai future.

[player_tooltip player_id="1029810" first="Will" last="Way"] (Pusch Ridge)

-A post player who may be the strongest player in the '23 class. He has huge hands and size 18 shoes. He can move players bigger then him and rebounds anything near him. He has a nice touch on his FT's and is mostly scoring on layups off of hard work from the glass. He will keep growing and if can get close to 6'8, he could be a dominant force in Tucson.

[player_tooltip player_id="1035521" first="Adam" last="Mosher"] (Northwest Christian)

-A scoring guard can shoot it from mid to the 3pt line and he can drive the lane. He can euro his way to the basket plus pull-up off the dribble. He is a decent passer and good teammate. He should be able to play varsity this next season on a good 3A team. They lost in the Elite-8 last year to eventual state champs ALA-QC.
