Continue ReadingThere’s an abundance of great players coming back for the 2020-21 season at the 6A level and many of them were huge contributors already this past season. Many of last year’s rebounding leaders are back to hit the boards once again.
Here are the top returning rebounders for 2020-21.
Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge 6'7" | PF Jefferson | 2021 #228 Nation OR (2021 Jefferson) – 12.6 rpg – #1
This is assuming the returning 6A Player of the Year returns to play – after all he is committed for football at Oklahoma – but Rawlins-Kibonge should be the odds-on favorite to win another 6A rebounding title. The 6-foot-7 post is certainly big and strong, which makes him near impossible to block out on either end, but his wingspan and athleticism allow him to grab rebounds outside of his area as well. His ability to snare offensive boards often lead to easy buckets for him at the rim and on the defensive end, he’s capable of pulling down the rebound and immediately taking it up court on the fast break.
Bryce Dyer Bryce Dyer 6'5" | PF North Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 North Medford) – 9.4 rpg – #3
Dyer has served as an undersized post at 6-foot-4 but certainly played bigger than his size on the glass. His secret is positioning, solid athleticism, and simply having a nose for the basketball. When you watch him on film he almost always overworks his opponent to get to the ball. Dyer has been focused on expanding his game on the offensive end but should once again rank up there in 6A in rebounding.
Ben Gregg Ben Gregg 6'8" | SF Clackamas | 2021 #50 Nation OR (2021 Clackamas) – 9.4 rpg – #4
There were no questions that Gregg would be able to adapt to 6A from the 2A level and not just offensively – he more than got the job done in the rebounding department as well. On the offensive end he does spend a bit of time operating on the perimeter but is good at following up missed shots for easy putbacks. And on the defensive end, Gregg controls the backboards and is capable of turhning and hitting teammates with outlet passes.
Kavon Bradford Kavon Bradford 6'2" | CG Benson | 2023 State OR (2023 Benson) – 8.1 rpg – #6
Bradford is easily the shortest player on this list at six feet tall – how does the star freshman get so many rebounds? It’s a combination of length, athleticism, and having the knack of being in the right place at the right time on both ends. It certainly helped that Benson as a team lacked size but Bradford still went and got rebounds as necessary.
Jalen Grable Jalen Grable 6'3" | SF Westview | 2021 OR (2021 Westview) – 7.9 rpg – #7
Like many others around the state, Grable has been called upon to play in the frontcourt despite being undersized at 6-foot-4. But the rising senior has adjusted, using his length and athleticism to be one of the top rebounders in the state. Grable plays above the rim and after grabbing a defensive board, has the ability to start creating up the floor off the dribble. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him post similar numbers this year.
