With all that said, this upcoming season is one where new players can emerge from out of nowhere in this division and become a top dog in the city. This list will try to take into account position, but in this area a guard can be the same height as a post player, and is based on what this writer believes will happen with the players individually and the team success surrounding them.
Dan Wagner Dan Wagner 6'0" | CG Columbus Africentric Early College | 2022 State OH ; Junior- Africentric: The most talented team in the south division resides off James Rd. across the street from the best taco truck in Columbus. Wagner led this team in scoring last season with 15 points per game, he looks to lead them to a championship game this season and if he does then this spot will be waiting on him. Wagner’s scoring prowess is second to none in the south and with the amount of talent around him, the team success of the Nubians will be great.
Keshawn Harris; Senior- Independence: The season of the Sixers will come down to the play of their two best players and Harris’ impact will need to be felt in a major way. Harris is one of the more underrated players in Columbus but with strong victories during next year, his name will ring throughout gyms in this city. Independence is a team that could surprise schools that will overlook them coming into the season. Victories will be a huge part of him making the actual team this season but with the talent they bring back, expect for the wins to come.
Dailyn Swain Dailyn Swain 6'7" | SF Africentric | 2023 State #81 Nation OH ; Sophomore- Africentric: This pick could be a prediction that is one year early but if everything breaks correctly for the Nubians, this young man will have his breakout year this season. The 6-foot-6 swing forward has made waves this offseason by getting stronger while keeping all the athletic abilities he was born with. His role will increase this year after a really good freshman year performance, he showed he is capable of being on the first-team this season.
Javion Williams; Senior- Briggs: This pick is solely based on if Williams can stay academically eligible this season, if he can then he will be a shoe-in for this team. Williams is the type of player that can win games for your team as his coach says and this season will be the test of that. If the perpetual underdog Bruins can reel off numerous wins over unexpected teams then Williams will find himself on this list at season’s end.
Gabe Oduro; Senior- Eastmoor Academy: Coach Miranda loves his guard play, when he has it, but this season will be more inside the paint oriented. Becoming more big man oriented means that Oduro will get first dibs on the basketball after it is brought up court and he will be given every opportunity to put the ball in the basket. If Oduro has increased his physical play then he will be able to take advantage and become the inside presence that the Warriors always desperately want.
