August 15th and 16th I attended Justin Vargas King of AZ tournament at Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

He had ages 15U-17U playing 4 games each in the two days. many of the top AZ AAU programs were involved plus one mystery team with a lot of talent that played just for the weekend.

Here were some more of the senior standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="1035631" first="Joshua" last="Uduje"] AZ Compass Prep (Da Unknowns) (Pictured)

-A newcomer by the way of London, England. He is a good shooter and has great body control in traffic. He is very fast in the open court and can attack off the bounce and throw it down elbows above the rim on the break His catch-3 is a pure when he is going good. He can be a tad streaky but uses his length and quick feet to defend other guards.

[player_tooltip player_id="703811" first="Jason" last="Kimbrough Jr"] Mountain Pointe (Da Unknowns)

-The rising senior is looking more and more like that pure PG. He was driving and kicking all weekend and uses his speed to get into the lane to suck in the defense then make his play. His floater game was falling and can hit the 3. His on-ball D is suffocating at times and collected 2-4 steals in every game played. He also averaged about 4 assists this weekend. His speed, shooting, mental mindset switch of a PG has made him a more attractive prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="703839" first="Elijah" last="Thomas"] Valley Vista (Factory)

-A late blossoming wing has high upside. He has a pure stroke from the 3pt line and plays above the rim on the break. He is a a really talented passer, shooter and long athlete. He is a quick twitch athlete that challenges all opponents to block shots inside and closes out on a defender quickly. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim plus use the floater. He also can handle the ball in tight quarters and shows a nice upside.

[player_tooltip player_id="932361" first="Ravion" last="Hodge"] Cesar Chavez (AZ Select Wilson)

-A long and lean athletic wing takes very few strides to get to the cup. He is always in attack mode and can euro his way to score or get ot the FT line. He can hit from mid-range and in and he is capable 3pt shooter plus a very good rebounder for position.

[player_tooltip player_id="706719" first="Nahshon" last="Harper"] Phhoenix Prep Post Grad (AZ Select Wilson)

-A very fast PG directed his team this weekend. He made plays for others with some slick passes to the post or drive and kicked it to shooters. He used his real speed to get passed his defender and score near the hoop. He also showed the ability to hit the 3 with some consistency. His best skill is still probably his lateral quickness defending on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1035597" first="Jaxton" last="Bobik"] Queen Creek (AZ Ballers)

-A long and lean forward is a very unique prospect. He was literally 6’4 last year during HS season and grew 3 inches. Not something you see a lot and his game has taken off. He has a nice stroke from the 3pt line and he can block shots and rebound on the back end with his 6’10 wingspan. He still moves like a wing and handles the ball well for a forward to create his own shot in the paint with his bigger size.

[player_tooltip player_id="932346" first="Jacob" last="Clapper"] Desert Edge (AZ Select Wilson)

-An athletic bigger wing who scores it inside the paint with a decent handle. He has great activity inside and is very strong upper body to bang and score vs bigger players. He loves the pull-up from mid-range and is a capable 3pt shooter. He received an offer from Park Univ last weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="809699" first="Carson" last="Kelly"] Chander (AZ Prime Newey)

-A scoring PG with great open court speed and handled the constant double teams he was receiving all games. The ball is clearly on a string for him and he controlled the game and tempo for his Prime team. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and hit the catch-3. He recently earned an offer from Scottsdale CC.
