August 15th and 16th I attended Justin Vargas King of AZ tournament at Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

He had ages 15U-17U playing 4 games each in the two days. many of the top AZ AAU programs were involved plus one mystery team with a lot of talent that played just for the weekend.

Here were some more of the junior standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="701265" first="Ahamed" last="Mohamed"] Apollo (Factory 16 & 17)

-A true ball hawk who is fearless despite his size. He makes their team go with toughness, grit and shooting. His first step is really tough to defend and gets to the teeth of the defense almost at will. He gets to the FT line 4+ times a game it seems by consistently blowing by his defenders. He can make the off balance shot and his pull-up from mid-range is tough.

[player_tooltip player_id="701269" first="Raydon" last="Thorson"] Queen Creek (AZ Ballers 17)

-A pure PG who seems to find anyone at anytime. He keeps on improving his shooting and his athleticism has improved as he can throw down on the break now. He can pull-up off the dribble and the ball is on a string for him and just keeps pushing the ball up the court as he advances passes probably better than anyone in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id="706706" first="JP" last="Musselmann"] Brophy Prep (Arizona Dream 16)

-A versatile face-up forward who scores it from inside and out. He is a top-notch rebounder who rebounds in and out of his area. He is a quick second jumper and his 3pt stroke seems to get more and more consistent every year. He is crafty around the hoop and can fade-away in the post to score. He also is a sneaky good passer and he is the backbone of the team.

[player_tooltip player_id="933541" first="Ahmari" last="Moody"] Heritage Maricopa (PAL Elite 16)

-A smooth bigger PG can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He has a smooth handle and can burst passed his defender to score on difficult layups in traffic. He has a high arcing 3pt shot and can keep improving but is definitely capable. He made some pinpoint passes along the way as he is another PG in the class that is a next level passer.

[player_tooltip player_id="827030" first="Trent" last="Moser"] Gilbert (AZ Prime 16 Klaus)

-A long and taller face-up forward. He has a pretty 3pt stroke and is a strong two-handed rebounder. He runs the floor well and can score it inside as well. He does tend to float to the 3pt line, which is currently his comfort spot. He can handle the ball fluidly and is a good runner who can flush it down. He also happens to be a nationally ranked volleyball player.

[player_tooltip player_id="827004" first="Blessing" last="Nwotite"] Paradise Honors (Factory 16 & 17)

-An athletic guard who is one of the better defenders in the class. He finds many ways to score it without being that knock down shooter. He is star in transition, slashes to the cup with either hand, he cuts when he is supposed to and can take his man off the bounce. He can get to the FT line and is a capable 3pt shooter. He is a good rebounding guard and can defend the 1-4 in HS making him a versatile player for the Panthers.
