Continue ReadingThe Pelican Hoopfest in Jackson was one of the last chance efforts some 2021 preps had to make a lasting impression on college coaches. With BallerTV streaming, coaches across the country got to see various players that may interest them. While there were some high profile players who got plenty of press, there were some others who slid under the radar. We will take a look at some of the 2021 players who slid under the radar during the tournament and highlight what may or may not make them attractive to schools at the next level.
Claudell Harris Claudell Harris 6'3" | CG Hahnville | 2021 State LA | 6’3″ | New Orleans Elite – Harris came off the bench for New Orleans Elite and made an impact in the three games. What we did learn is when the game is on the line, Harris can take his game to another level. During Elite’s win against Louisiana Elite, Harris scored ten or his twelve points during the last four minutes to secure the win. His performance displayed that he can be a money player when needed for his team.
Delatrion Moton Delatrion Moton 6'4" | CG Woodlawn-Shreve | 2021 State LA | 6’4″ | Xpress – A couple of summers ago, Moton played with LivOn and had a pretty good summer. Fast forward to Jackson and he dressed out with the hometown team from northwest Louisiana. While Moton is not the most athletic player, he has a high basketball IQ and can make plays at crucial times of the game. This formula was one of the keys to their win Sunday morning.
JonQuarius McGhee | 6’3″ | Louisiana Elite – McGhee showed that he could play on or off the ball on Saturday. He is an explosive player who was able to penetrate at will in some instances during the his three game stint. He has good size and is more explosive than perceived. He can also defend his opposite number. SImply put, McGhee can get it done at either guard position.
Chris Flippin | 6’7″ | New Orleans Elite – Flippin was the most tenacious rebounder throughout play during the showcase games. He knew how to carve out space in the paint and scored off plenty of put backs. Flippin also was able to bully a couple of players and score on short hooks as well. Flippin may have had is coming out party in these games and showed that he will be a force on the high school level.
Lorenzo Caldwell Lorenzo Caldwell 6'5" | SF Slidell | 2021 State LA | 6’3″ | Louisiana Elite – Caldwell might have started his summer with LivOn but he might have done some of his best work against them. Caldwell played well off of Kendrick Delahoussaye Kendrick Delahoussaye 6'0" | PG Lafayette High | 2021 State LA and found places to spot up for threes. While he did get into foul trouble, he guarded anyone between the one and four positions. This displayed his willingness to play for the team. With his shooting ability, I think he will be a player to watch this year.
These five might not have been some of the names that people came to see. However, they made it worth someone’s time if they took a look. Watch for these names as we move towards the high school basketball season.
