6AAAA was wild last year from the start to the section seedings all the way to the latest Hopkins section title. What’s next? Here is the expanding group of talent.

Two Notes

I started naming these articles "Ten Best" when I started with the smaller schools which of course has players for each grade. It has become harder to differentiate with bigger classes and more kids per grade because there has been so much basketball taken away. We lost the state tournament, we lost almost three months of spring/summer 17u/16u hoops, we lost the camps, and we lost all the Breakdown summer events that I attend a couple times a week. Therefore it’s been harder to differentiate than in past years, and therefore I have more than ten names, again.

One team that is incomplete right now is Minneapolis South. They have a couple solid seniors back and several Brooklyn Center 8th grade talents that played varsity last year are transferring to South, we just don’t know which ones for certainty so it’s hard to add their names here yet.

Five Best

[player_tooltip player_id="850713" first="Carter" last="Bjerke"] of Wayzata. Carter is on the verge of a lot of bigs things because his shooting touch is not only pretty, it’s pretty with range plus Carter is really good around the basket. Carter is a D1 caliber player about to have a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id="850703" first="Camden" last="Heide"] of Wayzata. Camden is a top 50 level player nationally (highest ranked Minnesota 2022 nationally) that has unfortunately had a lot of the last nine months taken away from him because of injury (or he has played in a limited way). Heide has the ability to be a wing three point shooter, he has the ability to use his size and quick bounce to finish around the basket, and he has the ability to attack ball screens and make plays with the dribble.

[player_tooltip player_id="774739" first="Paris" last="Johnson"] of St. Louis Park. The top returning scorer in the section, [player_tooltip player_id="774739" first="Paris" last="Johnson"]. Most explosive guard/wing in the section, [player_tooltip player_id="774739" first="Paris" last="Johnson"]. Most overlooked player in the section, [player_tooltip player_id="774739" first="Paris" last="Johnson"]. Minnesota, this young man can play and he can have a massive per game total that could be among the section leaders,

[player_tooltip player_id="850704" first="Elvis" last="Nnaji"] of Hopkins. The top big man prospect in the section is [player_tooltip player_id="850704" first="Elvis" last="Nnaji"]. What Elvis has going for him is a agile frame that allows him to run with the pack and then use size (strength and length) to make plays near the rim. Elvis also has a hunger to improve and the type of personality players like to be around.

[player_tooltip player_id="774738" first="Jaelen" last="Treml"] of Hopkins. We told you it’s be hard to differentiate players without the same amount of time the last four months. That is not true with all players. What has been clear with the Minnesota Select is that Treml has a chance for a special senior year. His versatility is exciting.

Next Five

[player_tooltip player_id="958661" first="Drew" last="Berkland"] of Wayzata. Don’t forget about [player_tooltip player_id="958661" first="Drew" last="Berkland"] as a two way standout. This young man may be playing another sport while others hoop this summer but he’s a top talent.

[player_tooltip player_id="958641" first="Davion" last="Evans"] of Robbinsdale Cooper. Evans led Cooper in scoring last winter helping them push to 19 wins. He did that as a sophomore and expectations are high for his junior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="958645" first="Camden" last="Holter"] of Minneapolis Southwest. Southwest looks to be taking another step and leading the way on the floor is [player_tooltip player_id="958645" first="Camden" last="Holter"]. Holter has size, agility, and the talents to play all over the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="957132" first="Xavier" last="White"] of Hopkins. [player_tooltip player_id="957132" first="Xavier" last="White"] could be the next talent that breaks out. We are seeing it happen some with Select right now and we could see it this winter. There is a natural ability there with growing skill that could be very good.

[player_tooltip player_id="532609" first="Kody" last="Williams"] of Wayzata. [player_tooltip player_id="532609" first="Kody" last="Williams"] is a player that will be a four year varsity player which is exactly why Wayzata is considered a top contender to win state next season. Kody, Drew, and the next man up will make a top Minnesota backcourt.

Another Five

[player_tooltip player_id="774744" first="Eddie" last="Beeninga"] of Wayzata. Eddie dealt with some injuries but now healthy Eddie continues to be one of the fastest players in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id="957153" first="Andrew" last="Chisley"] of Hopkins. Andrew has been a top 2-3 scorer for Select this summer, the talent is coming.

[player_tooltip player_id="774856" first="Tyson" last="Dallas"] of Robbinsdale Cooper. Tyson will be a senior coming off a dozen point per game season.

[player_tooltip player_id="957152" first="D’Sean" last="Larkins"] of Robbinsdale Armstrong. Larkins is the most experienced player back for Armstrong and the top returning producer.

Bo Powell of Robbinsdale Cooper. Powell is a combo guard that helped Cooper win 19 games a season ago, and most the team is back.
