The tournament features a variety of different pools which all essentially feed into a bracket for the final two days of the tournament. This specific article covers the Top 5 Standouts in Pools A-D on just Friday, July 24th. These are the athletes that stood out to me personally, and I felt had a great impact in their games today.
Jeremiah Richardson – Beast Elite – 2020 – G 5’10
The quick bulky guard truly is a runaway train coming through the paint. The man has no regrets, and he will do whatever it takes to get that ball off the glass and into the hoop. It is so easy to see that he’s not afraid of competition and that he is ready to get fouled going through traffic. Today, Jeremiah picked himself up 3 layups and a couple of foul shots to accompany his physicality. He is a good looking football player, but don’t sleep on Richardson when it comes to getting buckets because he is up next in that aspect as well.
Payton Gonzales – ProSkills SATX Black – 2021 – G 6’0
If you want to watch a player that has an arsenal full of weapons then you need to see the man Payton drop some major spin moves on you. I truly can’t describe how fluid his foot movement is. Every step he takes is just another decoy for the defender to fall to. But the reason his moves are even mentioned is because of his ability to use this arsenal of weapons in order to create shots out of nothing. Overall, just a great guard that uses his speed as well as his flashiness to maneuver around defenders.
Nathan Parra – Kingdom Performance – 2021 – G 6’0
A player that works alongside his teammates very well is Mr. Parra. I love his ability to use his speed to not only play defense but also score buckets against large defenders like the ones on Beast Elite. In this game, Nathan was able to drop 15 points off of drives as well as some jump shots and a clean looking three-pointer. Kingdom Performance is a team that goes on a lot of hot streaks, and when they heat up, Nathan is leading the charge making sure he is filtering the rock around as well as getting some buckets himself.
Myles Watkins – Team United Texas – 2021 – F 6’3
Myles is an athlete that works on both sides of the ball. He truly changes the tempo of the game by creating space to make critical jump shots. His other abilities also include how he is overall a taller player, but he zooms around the court as if he was 3 inches under 6 foot rather than 3 inches over. Watkins only had eight points against ProSkills, but his contributions in other games allowed for his team to compete well in the Pool Play. Myles is a forward that I will for sure recognize when anyone mentions this United Texas team.
Ronald Holmes – Beast Elite – 2021 – G 6’5
In my opinion, I had to save the best for last and my goodness what a day he had this Friday in Duncanville. Ronald was able to carry his team to the two seed spot after Pool Play, and he fully shows signs of an elite athlete, but we already knew that because this 6’5 beast is a quarterback with offers. But 23 points isn’t just a stat line to look over in a tournament like this. My man was filtering buckets, and he did so in a very powerful way. Ronald stuck out the moment he stepped on the court, and I could truly see this “football team” (a.k.a. Beast Elite) go far in the weekend championship rounds.
